I disagree with above comment. I detailed high end cars while I was going to USC, and have been using this duster daily on my cars for the last 35 years. That advice might hold some weight if your car doesn't have a coat of wax on it or isn't garaged. But if it is garaged and is waxed at least a few times a year, this will keep your car looking freshly washed all the time. I start the car and then spend 45 seconds dusting the whole car and then drive off. I had a Porsche before this Infiniti and it looked showroom condition all the time in large part thanks to this duster. I almost forgot the point of my post. In memory of the 99c stores closing down, a great memory of mine about 5-6 years ago was walking in one day to look around and saw a whole shelf filled with these original California Car Dusters with the wooden handle (premium) for $6.99. Bought about 5-6 of them, which will last the rest of my life. I'm currently using one that's been in use for 15+ years of daily use. They keep working better and better the dirtier they get.

Please don't use this on your car's paint. Pushing around dry dirt and dust will add scratches and swirls to your paint.

It's advisable to spray on some form of lubricant such as quick detailer or rinseless wash, and then use a damp microfiber towel to pick up the encapsulated particles. This reduces chances of scratching, and also has the added benefit of leaving a layer of protection on top of your paint.

There's nothing wrong with using these, I've been using them for years. Properly used, they are a great addition to your car care regiment. Like anything, you have to be smart about it. The car should be waxed or coated, all of mine have ceramic now and have for years. I live in the desert where it rains dust...I use these every day. You give it a spritz of detailing spray or waterless wash before use. Otherwise, it will build up static and attract more dust. You glide this over the car, without using pressure. Halfway done, shake it out and give it another mist. If I miss more than 2 days, I break out the waterless wash instead. Most don't have the dust I do, so YMMV. Once a month, pull the head off and wash it in the sink. A must.

I show my cars. Go to any car show and you'll see these all over the place.

Again, these are for dusty cars, not dirty cars.

Let us know who you detail cars for because we can ensure you never touch ours. In the industry you'd get laughed out the door. This is 100% a swirl inducer. No question about it.

You are absolutely not a professional. In fact, I think this is a deliberate psyop.

Now I just need a deal on the California water blade.
I have been using an original "Made in the USA" California water blade for decades. They no longer exist. I've tried the current Chinese version and a few knockoffs but always go back to my good old GENUINE Original California Water Blade. I would gladly pay full price if I could find a GENUINE original. They just don't make them like they used to!

I don't care how long you've been detailing cars or even if that's your business, it's very simple: if you have dust on your car, this is grinding that dirt into the paint. It's basic reality. You absolutely 100% WILL get micro-scratches / webbing.

This doesn't somehow magically absorb dust and dirt.

IMO Dusty cars are dirty cars. If you're using waterless as a lubricant, then this tool is no different than just getting a high GSM microfiber towel, which is less likely to induce scratches and probably gets the job done faster. I just dont see a place for the california duster in modern days. 20 years ago sure when there wasnt the products we have today.

I appreciate the comment and although it's generally true for random dusters I also agree with Bryan when it comes to this duster. I've been using the california duster (not other knock offs) for about 20 years. They come sort of oily/wet and even with the high level of dust I get on my car they seem to take it off just fine without a scratch. When they get really old I just stsrt using it on my shoes for a quick shine and they seem to be working well too (nubuck leather).

Costco use to have great deals on this with the mini duster or water blade but this is a solid deal as well.

These angry kids are partially correct because the paint on today's cars is garbage. It scratches when a fly lands on the paint.
I had my Black jeep for close to 10 years. I used this for 8 years and every time I dusted it, I got compliments asking if it's a new car, even after 7-8 years.
It works. If you never used it, you don't know how well it works. It is supposed to be for dust that settles on your car when it's parked after washing. That's also another indication that point on today's cars is garbage because it's not glass-like where dust can slide off. You have to spend thousands to get it coated so it stays nice. It's like simoniz scam but for real.
Anyways, not gonna convince anyone this works but it does. If you think your car will stay scratch free forever, congratulations and keep believing that. It's a car, not a trophy piece. Sure don't put it through the the spiny hell of a car wash but don't kill yourself trying to keep the car clean. Plus you won't see any swirls on light colored cars, black especially jet black is already hell to keep clean.

I'm curious with those that already own this, could this duster be useful to dust around the home whether for baseboards or something else?

It's ok to have a different opinion even if it's wrong like yours. You obviously have never washed a car in your life.

I agree with him. It actually seems like you're the one who's never wash the car in your life. Thanks op.
