If you're using TorGuard VPN, the Mumbai server will not work (apparently Microsoft knows their IP addresses). You'll get the "purchased in a different region from your account" error. However, the Bangalore server works perfectly.
Some other VPNs may also have the same issue. The "purchased in a different region from your account" error typically means you should try connecting to a different city in India or try using a different VPN. It does not mean that you should change your XBox account's region from the US to India, this is never required.

It's not sustainable. That's why you should take advantage while you can.
For every one person using a VPN in India to get cheaper gamepass, 9 other people are paying the full price to the multibillion corporation. I'm just saying.
Need to wait about 3 more weeks, before being able to fully top off my account, but don't want to risk buying a code and not using it till then.
That brings you to a $16.99/mo (in the US) Ultimate sub link, which you then agree to, and it'll show the conversion. Mine went from expiring in May 2027 with Core, to expiring in June 2026 with Ultimate. I agreed, and it converted with no additional charges. You just need to have a credit card on file so that it will go through.
So my conversion was better than 81 days Ultimate for 6 Months of Core ... since I was starting from scratch.
