If you're using TorGuard VPN, the Mumbai server will not work (apparently Microsoft knows their IP addresses). You'll get the "purchased in a different region from your account" error. However, the Bangalore server works perfectly.
Some other VPNs may also have the same issue. The "purchased in a different region from your account" error typically means you should try connecting to a different city in India or try using a different VPN. It does not mean that you should change your XBox account's region from the US to India, this is never required.

Anyone who is having trouble redeeming these because you may have done it in the past for Brazil or Turkey. You need to change your location in your Xbox/microsoft profile to whichever country you previously purchased codes for. Mine didn't work until I changed my location to Turkey. Still have to stay logged into an India VPN address.
