Highly unlikely the Arcam sounds better than even a mid range Yamaha. This is one of those brands where you pay for the prestige and the sound improvements exist in the mind. Any time an Arcam is tested and measured it never lives up to the price tag.
It's got poor signal to noise ratio... I get it's best to let your ears to decide but I still want the equipment I buy to play the thing I send it. So some tests are worth trusting.
I'm not saying the brand in snake oil, I'm saying audio equipment industry as a whole tends to have a lot of snake oil in it. So in my opinion, if it can't pass any objective tests it doesn't matter how good the brand is or the reputation the brand has. How about this specific model?
Let your ears decide in audio almost always means let your imagination decide so you can rationalize the money you spent.
I went from marantz to avr 30 upgraded to the hdmi 2.1 board aka avr31. Same speaker setup and it completely transformed the sound. Yes it's expensive but you will be blown away from marantz denon Yamaha Sony etc.
Check out ripewave on youtube. Rated yamaha the best sounding out of all of them. Yami runs cool and probably the best built and reliable of the bunch, too, at a decent price. I had a 3k budget and after seeing Teardown decided, the arcam is not on the same level of quality and reliability as yamaha not to mention Yamaha just works. No weird gremlins and glitches like then other brands .I think the arcam looks nice but that's about it. yamaha Has dual ess Sabre pro dac's too. Started out with Denon, and it always ran hot as hell and stopped working after two years. Had a yami rxv675, aventage 1070, the RX-A6A and now the RX-A8A that's on sale for $1750 right now. Never had a single issue with any of them. they sound fantastic and barely get warm in an enclosed cabinet.
Arcam is a high end audio brand. Same reason why a Porsche 911 GT3 cost more than a Toyota Corolla. It performs better. Quality class A/B amp, Good ESS Sabre DAC, DIRAC room correction software. It has 12 channels with Dolby Atmos. Any audiophile would now.
Frankly, I'm surprised comments on this Arcam's amp power only took up the first page of this thread. You can always buy a 180hp Porsche but why would you want to?!!!

Because people use this amp for surround speakers. They use a different amp for their main speakers.

False. Dac's no better than yamaha.
