Not sure if this has anything over the free browser game though.
Fun game. Dumb concept executed perfectly. I used to play it at work with a coworker during source compilations and meetings when the topics being discussed weren't relevant. Keep the browser open. Passively collect cookies. Check in periodically.
Idle games got wildly successful after cookie clicker and are showered everywhere in the insanely lucrative and predatory mobile game app store with their in app purchases. While this game does not have iAP, the iAP is just proof of the addictive nature of it. The game isn't necessarily "fun", it's just a pointless dopamine injector. It just tricks your brain into shooting you up with more and more of that sweet sweet dopamine when line go up. I mean you can make arguments attacking or defending idle games and say "X games are pointless dopamine injectors too" and that can be fair. Point is that these are wildly addicting in the bad way for a good portion of the population. There's a reason these mechanics are built into so many f2p mobile games.
edit: Also cookie clicker came out in 2013.
