No additional cost and no need to buy a plan just comes locked with Total by Verizon unlockable after 2 months, choose full price under the pricing option instead of switching. skip the plan selection and get it for 149, no need to pay anything extra.

$99, plus $35 activation it says, plus tax on full retail I think, which is like $399.99 times my state's 6%. So it's more like $160.

I can wait a while longer. Maybe next time I'll get it for free cuz the phone will be 2.5 years old by BF.

Edit: Also an FYI, I just googled, and an Iphone SE 4 is being planned. The design is just rumored, so it's possible that they go a step up in size, without a home button.

It's rumored to be like an Iphone 14. If they made the phone similar to the 14 or so, they could probably reuse a lot of the same materials they already have on hand. But on the flip side, if you're going to use all that newer stuff, it kinda defeats the purpose of having a separate budget line, unless the new iphones are gonna start at $1000-1100, and the SEs are in the $500-600 range.

But in this economy, I don't think theyd do that.

To be safe, I'd probably still get an Iphone SE3 (2022), but later in the cycle.
I'm surprise there haven't been more free deals for this phone. I got it 2 years ago for free on Xfinity Mobile (they covered the monthly device payment as long as I stayed on Xfinity Mobile for 2 years. On a $30/month plan).

At some point an upgrade becomes arbitrary, when Apple stops issuing security updates on a given phone model. Buying a phone that's been out a year or 2 seems to be the best way to stay within Apple's ecosystem without breaking the bank. There's no way that I'd drop $1000 on a phone just to get the latest model. This SE3 for less than $200 all in is a much better value for all but the most demanding users, and will be supported for years.

In today's world economy, it's pretty much impossible to buy only non-Chinese goods. Even American cars and motorcycles are full of Chinese parts.

Do I need to activate the phone to begin the unlock process ? Does the 149$ phone include any service and /or activation?

Thanks. May considering doing this deal.

Gotta have the home button. Don't need/want a large phone.

I have an SE 2020 right now, but the battery is showing signs of weakness. I'm at 84% battery, which is still okay, but once you get to around 80 they recommend you replacing it. I don't trust any of these private shops to replace the battery with aftermarket stuff, so the only option is Apple for $80 or to get a new phone.

I just dunno how to avoid the activation fee. And you gotta pay tax on the retail price too. So it all adds up.
I had the same issue with battery. Replaced at Apple Store and this phone will easily last another year or two

Same $99. price with verification at Total by Verizon so no credit inquiry. Yes, after unlock (60 days) it works on every US carrier and most of the world's networks too. It's an auto unlock so no need to contact them. If you don' t want to pay the second month before the unlock, some say no need to buy the second month's plan. I elected to drop down to Total's unadvertised talk and text plan (no data) for $10. to make sure. I had the SE2 and the added 5G is added bonus with speed and coverage. I still have an old 5S and that thing runs like new with getting 4G/LTE. Build quality and design on the 5S is impressive.
Agree about the no credit inquiry; but the verification process is a bit iffy, plus you'd pay $99 for phone + minimum $30 for first month plan activation to get the phone (AFAIK, you can't sign up with the $10 talk and text plan). With the Verizon deal, you can limit the cost to just the phone (plus taxes).

I messaged total by Verizon and asked about how long will it take for a total iphone to unlock.
The phone needs to be activated for at least 1 year before it is eligible for free unlocking.
Moreover, it takes 2 months after activation for the phone to be eligible for unlocking with charges applied.
You - 2:09 PM
How much are the charges after 2 months ?
Trishia - Now
It depends. You will incur a charge of up to $300, depending on how long your service was active prior to the unlocking request.

It's eligible for unlocking after 2 months for a fee up too 300$ , for free unlock you need to be activated a year.

I asked and got the $10. plan for the 2nd month. I've purchased 2 phones from them and no problems. No activation fee.

If you are an existing Total or Verizon customer, you can right away use it with your existing sim, I guess. Otherwise, you need to buy a plan, buy the cheapest plan and it will anyway unlock in 2 months, that's what I understand from all these posts.

I'm still confused as to how much this is going to cost in the end. After I order this phone, call in three days to cancel service and activation. Or call after three days of delivery and turning the phone on? What is the best excuse to give them as to why I am canceling service? What is the expected pro-rate cost of the service for 3 or so days?

LOL..that rep is clueless. Call and ask them..it's a unlock at 60 days and in their terms and conditions. There are no additional charges at any time. EDIT: here's from their unlocking policy: "For all cellphones activated with new TracFone service on the Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked automatically, sixty (60) days after activation." See: www.tfwunlockpolicy.com/wps/portal/home/

I am a noob in buying these. Can someone explain?

So If I buy and call IVR in 3 days and pay full price, then do I cancel right away? and I don't have to keep the line for 2 months basically?

Do I cancel the service once I get the phone? or cancel the service before the phone is delivered?

Does it unlock to all carriers like ATT? After 60 days?
If you're a noob, might as well get this deal. No contract etc. Pay for the 1st month and keep the phone in your drawer and auto unlock in 60 days.
