Seems to be at this price every month. It's a great stand alone router. Very fast speeds and above average range.

Let's just hope they continue supporting it for a few years since they are selling this for half the price of other similar spec routers

Every time this router shows up, I am tempted by the price. Then I have to remind myself that there are no custom firmware for this and talk myself out of it.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank IceQi

I have the AXE version of this (WiFi 6E). The firmware is full of bugs, and MSI doesn't seem all that interested in fixing them. I lost faith in them, and it sits unplugged. I'll probably give it away as it's useless to me.

Stay away from companies trying to make networking as a afterthought like MSI. You will be left with a broken network at home

I've had a positive experience with this router running the latest firmware (v720348). It's definitely a lot of hardware for the price. Whether MSI continues to support it is anyone's guess, but given that it's based on Qualcomm hardware, it's at least possible that it could receive OpenWrt support in the future.

If they don't want to fix the bugs, they should at least help the open source community do some of it.

That still requires work from them. Enjoy your new hockey puck of tech….

Agreed.

They allow ssh logins to the router, but even that is locked down and you can't make any changes. So it provides a possible attack vector with zero benefits.

If they had just made the hardware and put stock OpenWRT on it (like Gl.iNet or however it's spelled), these routers would be an amazing value as the performance was good. But no, they messed up the software.

I thought I could just put it in Access Point only mode and ignore the router features, but nope. They have a bug where it continues to broadcast Router Advertisements in this mode and break IP address assignment on my LAN. I reported that bug in February, but the latest firmware release is from January. Instead of fixing it they just closed the support ticket.

They did fix one bug I reported in January where the WiFi password couldn't contain spaces, so I know they at least read the tickets. But there were so many obvious bugs that it's clear that these guys aren't doing proper testing.

So does it mean this router can't use as a access point ?

It has the feature, but at least with the AXE model if you turn it on it will break IPv6 on your LAN. I don't know whether or not that bug exists with this model, but I would hazard a guess that it does.

IPv4 should continue to work, but if your ISP gives out IPv6 addresses too you will have problems. If I recall correctly every day the internet would seem to go out until I rebooted my router. Very frustrating.
