Just a heads up that if you buy the game through steam, you will NOT be able to take advantage of any future Square Enix store specific sales for the game or its expansions as you can't apply non steam version licenses to it.

You'll also be subject to potentially being unable to login if Steam is down.

Excellent game and community. A bit of a hard game to learn if you are unfamiliar with MMOs. The base game feels a bit outdated, but as you progress through the story - it gets extremely fun and the story becomes entertaining. Highly recommend trying the free trial before committing to a purchase of the game itself.

To add the free trial I believe covers the first two expansions till level 70. Which is a ton of content (like hundreds of hours if you level multiple classes) and definitely enough for you to see if you'll like the game. I couldn't get into it the first time but second time around I was hooked. It's more casual in places and "usually" less toxic than something like World of Warcraft, but your mileage will still vary depending on server etc...
