Ebikes coming into the USA from China are going to be slapped with a 25% tariff after June 14 it seems:

From my limited research...

Reddit says stay away from this company if you want long term support.

YouTube reviews (paid/incentivized) says great bike for the price.

SD commenters are more interested in teaching Global Macroeconomics 101.

I can't see any reason to spend this much on something that can very well become paperweight after about a year of usage. Which is a shame. I would've liked to have gotten a "Slickdeal".

Geez y'all... Can we talk about the bike instead?

So I bought two of the Austin for $519 for my kids back then. I'm thinking of getting this for myself. They've put over 200 miles on it since and no issues (got 2 flats but thats on my kids).

This one is couple hundred more..but it does have 750w motor/52V 13AH battery vs. 500w/48V 14AH battery on the Austin.

All else seems to be similar--20x3 fat tire, mechanical brakes (ugh), top speed, weight, etc.

Not sure if its worth the $200 if I'm only getting the bigger motor. If they had upgraded the brakes to hydraulics, then maybe its a consideration. But I'll hold off until a better deal comes around...

Last night, I lament that all the L20 2.0 bikes are sold out. Even the pink ones.

For giggles, I tried again this morning. Back in stock. This time, I didn't think twice. Just hit the BUY button. A black one is on the way (I hope.)

Wanted the emerald color one but won't be in 'until early June.' I don't like the gamble. Need to buy before the June 13 25% tariff deadline kicks in. Maybe it will, maybe it won't make waves. Doesn't matter anymore. Bought low and now I'm out of the loop. It's a folding companion to my other e-bike.

"The exclusions were set to expire May 31. Instead, the USTR will extend the exclusions until June 14 in a transition period."

"After that, imports of e-bikes, children's bikes, some carbon fiber frames and water packs will be subject to the extra 25% duty on top of long-standing tariffs. E-bikes are not subject to any other tariffs. The additional tariff will apply to products coming through Customs after midnight on the 14th; products already cleared are not subject to the tariffs."

The Rattan/Amazon e-bike debacle stings less now. To me, it doesn't matter that the Engwe bike is now selling without the front rack. That is probably another seller cost savings. It's okay.

I bought one last night. The last green one for the day. They are back in stock today. I hope we get within a couple of weeks the most. I tried contacting them to see if I can switch with the black one since I think is available for shipping right away as it does not say available early June like the green one. I will let you all know if I hear back

Thank you

I see if some photos it shows a front rack and others it doesnt. Can someone confirm if the 2.0 model comes with a front rack thing?

From the unpacking and assembly videos it looks like it does. Hope so.

I just bought a Ride1Up Portola, otherwise I would have jumped at this deal. I've watched quite a few reviews on this bike and they have all been favorable. Here's what I've learned from the reviews.

Pros
  • Very powerful motor, top performer for hill climbing, great acceleration
  • Great screen
  • Good suspension
  • Decent weight
  • Front and rear rack are nice inclusions
  • Easy access to battery

Cons
  • Suspension seat makes this difficult for shorter people to ride. Replacing the seat post fixes this issue though
  • Mechanical brakes have average performance
  • Front light does not follow wheel direction when mounted on front rack
  • Ghost pedaling occurs at higher speeds
  • Longer than usual delay for motor to kick in when using PAS
  • Cannot unlock throttle speed limit
  • Key needs to be in battery for bike to run
Unknown
  • Whether or not battery range meets Engwe's claims
  • Quality of Engwe's customer service

I've researched many comparably spec'd ebikes (Vitilan U7, i7 Pro, Velotric Fold, Ride1Up Portola, Lextric XP 3.0, Aventon Sinch, RadExpand 5, HeyBike Mars 2.0) and think the Engwe L20 2.0 is the best choice at $699, especially considering how powerful this 52v motor is and the overall good performance of the bike.
From the FAQ it has a video how to increase the speed limit. That's the first thing I will try.

I believe this only allows the bike to reach maximum speed of 28mph using the pedal assist. Using only the throttle, the bike will only go 20mph. Some other ebikes I looked at let you use throttle only to also reach the same max speed. HeyBike Mars 2.0 is one example.

The more well known brands lock the throttle to 20mph to comply with US regulations.

Bummer. Didn't know that. How much do you have to pedal?

Scam, the actual selling price in the store is $799, not $699
I paid $699 two days ago. Did you use a discount code? Maybe the code expired?
