They're alkaline at a low price.

Unless they were manufactured in 2018, I think you'll be fine.

It's Woot. These are probably from 1998. Never giving them my business again after the Nintendo Switch fiasco.

a few reviews say they die faster than regular batteries. Is that what Industrial means?

no, in theory industrial means they should last longer and/or be more durable, at least based on the way most battery companies appear to use the term (although, like almost all common advertising terms, it has no legal definition, so anybody can call a battery "industrial")
I, personally, would not put much stock in the subjective impressions of a few Amazon reviewers - the more Amazon reviews I see the less confidence I have in any of them these days.

You may be confusing it with "Heavy Duty" batteries, which are a different battery type (non alkaline) and die much sooner.

I've heard the opposite, that these are lower quality batteries that are typically sold in other countries.

Here is another thread with Amazon basics industrial alkaline: https://slickdeals.net/f/17497491-amazon-basics-aa-alkaline-batteries-industrial-double-a-5-year-shelf-life-40-pack-6-46?src=SiteSearchV2Algo

Someone in that thread pointed out that, despite thousands of reviews on Amazon, none were from the usa
