Hard disagree. Z-wave or zigbee is far less battery intensive, and they can be locally controlled. Many wifi IoT devices use proprietary or cloud services for control, which adds latency and also introduces a 3rd party point of failure. None of my z-wave devices will ever stop working due to a company going out of business or deprecating their servers.

Yes. It is quite a deal. I have been using this very lock for the past 7 years and it has held up amazingly. Originally I was skeptic about it thinking that maybe it might last for around 7 months to 2 years. I keep the physical key that comes with the lock on my keychain but I have never used it to open my front door. What a great buy this Yale lock is.

Edit: These one review on Amazon that says that this lock the Yale ‎YRD210 does not work SmartThings which is false. I have been using this lock just fine with ST the entire time that I have owned it.

Also, some of the reviews say the Yale YRD210 won't work on thinner doors without a gasket kit.make sure you check the reviews. I am going to grab one and hope it works with home assistant. The price is right. If it doesnt, I'll pass it onto someone in my family that wants to just use the keypad.

Anyone know if the whole key assembly can be swapped out for a Kwikset one? I have Kwikset all around the house, would like to keep the re-keye ability if I swapp locks.

Edit, NVM it cannot. Just looked closely at the picture.

These can be rekeyed by any locksmith but have to use the same keyway. I had regular Yale locks before I got the first YRD and had the zwave one rekeyed to match the other 3. When I bought more zwave locks I had them keyed to match.

I bought the brass yale lock a few months ago, and it came with a z-wave module. I have no experience with Ring though, so I can't answer that question.

I have the digital one and it works great. I prefer Z-Wave over WiFi. Z-Wave will still work locally if you lose internet access. Just the Z-Wave module alone is over $100. You can buy this for $30 just to get the Z-Wave module if needed.
