Hard disagree. Z-wave or zigbee is far less battery intensive, and they can be locally controlled. Many wifi IoT devices use proprietary or cloud services for control, which adds latency and also introduces a 3rd party point of failure. None of my z-wave devices will ever stop working due to a company going out of business or deprecating their servers.

It's not zwave+

It's S0 Protocol (not S2)

Yes. It is quite a deal. I have been using this very lock for the past 7 years and it has held up amazingly. Originally I was skeptic about it thinking that maybe it might last for around 7 months to 2 years. I keep the physical key that comes with the lock on my keychain but I have never used it to open my front door. What a great buy this Yale lock is.

Edit: These one review on Amazon that says that this lock the Yale ‎YRD210 does not work SmartThings which is false. I have been using this lock just fine with ST the entire time that I have owned it.

I bought one of these for $38.69 a few weeks ago on Amazon. It's a solid lock, I like their keypad series vs the touchscreen. Quality is much better than Schage or Quikset you can tell just by installing the lock. Works great with my Zooz 800 zwave stick and home assistant. I have 2 of the black version on another property, I replace batteries on them maybe once a year. This brass one the included batteries were already leaking so I wouldn't use them.

i'm using zooz devices 700 series. anything with a battery just loses connection all the time. even with a direct line of sight. switches do not have this problem.
What are you running on the backend?

Is this zwave plus?
No. That's $200 YRD-216 model

What zwave hub would folks here recommend to purchase?
I use Smartthings and have no real issues.

FYI, any battery operated z-wave device have the signal of a potato. couple of feet and the signal is dead
Batteries in this Yale lock lasts me almost an entire year before changing
Quote from jlim0930 :
only if it can be rekeyed to work with the existing locks.. like kwiksets
What's the point? It's not like you're never going to need to use a physical key with this lock.

Wonder how hard it would be to spray paint this a different color
I was just looking at how to break it down so you can spray paint that brass. For brass - scuff, primer, paint, matte enamel coat. The problem is breaking it down to pieces. I'm not sure you can break it down far enough easily. Add time + paint costs... may not be worthwhile.

I use Home Assistant. Given the locks are not Zwave+, I've found them to really struggle if the signal has to repeat through another device. Sometimes the state of the lock is not properly updated, but you can lock/unlock just fine.

Home assistant on a raspberry pi with an aeon labs Z-stick…. I'll never look back and all of it works under Apple Home and Alexa. Took some setting up but it's awesome

Amazon also sells the same lock at a higher price.

There are too many complaints that the lock is outdated and discontinued. It is not programmable. Many users returned the lock after wasting a lot of time with the tech support, only to find out that the lock is no longer supported by Yale.

I bought the yale deadbolt on a previous deal and have been experiencing signal dropouts mostly at night. I have a SmartThings v2 hub. Contacted Yale and said the lock is discontinued and might be an issue with an outdated z-wave radio.

Wondering if anyone has experienced the same? Lock has a clear line of sight of my hub and a fresh set of batteries.

Gonna poop on the party here... but just some perspective....

This is brass. It's pretty ugly fam. Just pony up and pay for a color that you actually like. If the lock lasts you 4 years (which it should) the extra cost is minimal over the duration of your ownership for the color that you actually want. But, you do you just my 2cents.

Agree with most of your comments, but I used this for an external door, probably for about 7 years as well and the brass started to peel and tarnish very badly after some years. Definitely got full value out of it

I bought the brass yale lock a few months ago, and it came with a z-wave module. I have no experience with Ring though, so I can't answer that question.
I have Yale lock different model though with zwave that I bought several years back and it works with Ring. I am able to automatically lock the doors when I arm the system. Therefore I believe this should work as well.
