  • About the product:
    • The Anbernic RG35XXSP or RG35XX SP, ANBERNIC's first clamshell handheld, closely resembles the classic Game Boy Advance SP and can emulate consoles such as NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Game Boy, PS1, N64, Dreamcast, and some PSP games. Despite being slightly larger in thickness and weight, the RG35XXSP is almost identical in size and buttons to the classic Gameboy Advance SP design. It offers similar specs to Anbernic's recent RG35XX Plus and RG35XX H models, including a 3.5-inch IPS screen with a 640 x 480 resolution, Allwinner H700 chipset, Dual-core G31 MP2 GPU, and 1GB of LPDDR4 RAM, in addition to a 3300mAh battery supporting an autonomy of up to 8 hours. This makes it powerful enough to emulate titles from 5th and 6th generation consoles like the SEGA Dreamcast (performance may vary per title) and Sony PlayStation.

Just saw a reddit post where one guy had one explode on him, be careful if you buy this.

Go on Aliexpress and you can get the 128gb version for less than this. There is a coupon link at the top of listing. I used an $8 off $60 purchase, for a total of $56.20 for the 128gb version with free shipping.

Make sure to make a backup image of the microsd when you get it as these no name cards have a high rate of failures.

Can't post Aliexpress link as SD will delete post.

I understand the nostalgia of the original GBA. The form factor, plugging in the carts... it's all great. EXCEPT the original GBA screen. It was HORRIBLE. You had to have just the right amount of ambient light, too much (like being outside) and the glare washed out the screen, too little and you couldn't see anything. To play in low level light you needed a third party light that plugged into the port on the top of the GBA, which meant angling the GBA just right so you didn't have light glare AND the light head wasn't in the way. The AGS-001 SP was slightly better as it had a backlight, but playing outside was still difficult, and the battery didn't last nearly as long as desired for daytrip car rides. Night play was better though. The AGS-101 has an updated, better screen. But you will be hard pressed to find one of those in good condition anywhere near $80.

These Anbernic emulators don't have the same nostalgia, but the screens are FAR nicer, the battery lasts way longer, and you can carry all your "backups" on one SDC card. I originally got the Powkiddy V30 for my son as a really cheap gaming option, but found myself envious so I bought the original Anbernic RG35XX for myself. Since then, I haven't even once been tempted to break out my GBA.

This is fine if it is what you want, but noting you can get an original Gameboy Advance SP on the bay for $80-ish.

$58.99 is actually supposed to be MSRP for the RG35XXSP...

Just found one on AliExpress for $55.99 w/ free shipping included...

It had a frontlight, not a backlight. That's why it looked so bad and washed out.

Ali has tax, this is tax included, it turns out about the same. Let's not forget that some sellers in Ali are scams.

You're right! My apologies. It was basically the Afterburner screen mod built in.

Agreed to a point. My only gba has a custom backlit screen and a multicart with complete (1.5 tb!) set of all playable games. I got a super battery replacement and it runs for a long time. My kid plays like crazy whenever we need to fly somewhere.

That said, I'm getting one of these again for the form factor.

I'm tempted. For anyone who has this or the other models made by ANBERNIC, did you keep the SD (TF??) card that it came with or swap it out? I'm not too familiar with handhelds beyond a Steam deck and I'm torn between ordering this to play out of the box or have to buy SD cards and then try and figure out what to do.
I have the rg35xx plus and I backed up the card and just put in a sandisk card. I also installed Batocera as the OS. I hear great things about MuOS and there are so many tutorials online for how to install those OS's over the stock one. These devices are really cool and a great way to use up all of these old outdated SoC's

Backup the sd card day one and then you can go from there. Recommend getting a name brand card for long term. As long as you have it backed up, you'll be good.
Just copying the files over to another device is good enough for a backup or does it need to be image backup?

Just use Balena Etcher. It'll make sure it's still bootable.

It doesn't allow the discount because the price of this is less than $59

I have this! Ordered Andy 1 of availability. I flashed the SD card and put a reliable 64gb card in that slot. Waiting for the bugs to be worked out from some other operating systems, but it's crazy how many games this will play. I love it.

That's why I mentioned ordering the 128gb version, it's $64.20 before coupons, so $56.20 + tax after the $8 coupon is applied.

However, there is a $4 coupon (USSC04) for purchases over $29 if you want to buy the 64gb version instead.

Hi Scoobie 😊 Depending on who the seller is, you may be able to post the AliExpress deal (either here or start a new thread, if you'd like). Is the seller Cutesliving or Anbernic Official Store by any chance (those have been approved to post here on SD in the past, even by non-staff community members)?
