I saw a lot of comments about aftermarket docks causing issues and voiding Switch warranties is this true?
No, but every switch thread someone brings it up again. It wasn't the docks. Nyko made some bad chargers that were sold with their docks, which were not compliant with USB-C, and sent high voltage when it shouldn't have (greatly simplifying here).

I did some research about these a while back.. not this particular brand but they can damage the switch and possibly void the warranty. Not saying they all do that but there's a possibility. I did end up buying one from amazon for traveling and has worked fine. My main charging/dock is the original one that came with my switch.
If the USB-C charger is not compliant then it can damage whatever it is charging. It wasn't anything specific to the Switch. Nyko made some power supplies (marketed towards the Switch) that didn't follow USB-C PD.

Why 67w vs 65w?
For $5 I figured better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. My laptop charges via USBC and I just upgraded to a larger one so it could use all the juice I can give it.

Damn, I just bought the Covert Dock 2 for $55 a week ago from Amazon.
Does anyone have some insight on which is better? I can still return the Covert Dock 2...

It was actually Nintendo that shipped the Switch with a non-standard USB-C port configuration.

https://gonintendo.com/stories/30...d-party-do

They fixed it with a firmware update.

The charge controller regulation for USB devices is ultimately up to the device, not the charger. Nintendo being Nintendo, they bucked the trend on that one and then pointed the finger at a missing resistor in the third party chargers (which is not standard to PD spec).

I think the only correlation with Nyko is they were one of only a few companies putting out third party docks at the time.

Regardless, the only way you're bricking a Switch these days is if you've never played a game on it since release, as most of them will force you to update past v5.0.

I'm interested in this specifically for laptops.... but looks like 67w has a max output of 62w and the 65w has a max of 60w

note to those who are interested: not enough to charge+use a laptop that needs 65w

thanks, got it! I'm probably just going to keep this with my steam deck, but if I didn't already have 120 w charger in my bag this would work quite nicely. it's a dock, a cable and a charger that's 67 w? amazing deal

Thanks, my switch dock stopped working recently, but I refuse to pay over $60 to be able to play the switch on the tv.

Yes, but if you have other USBC devices that require a higher wattage it would be best to invest wisely and go with a higher wattage device that can power your switch or any other devices that you may own. I went with the 67watt although I wish that it came in another color and also I don't understand why there is a 65 and 67 watt unit. The 67 watt is the newer released unit so that makes me more comfortable

Thanks. I just get this dedicated for the Switch when we are on traveling. I have other charges for other devices. That's why I don't feel like I need to pay extra $7-$12 for higher wattage.
