Though the price should make this obvious, the qualification on this product is that it achieves a low price by blending pure vanilla extract (the real stuff is indeed on the ingredients list) with vanillin and ethyl vanillin additives as would be expected in other similarly low cost alternatives to pure vanilla extract.
I'd suggest that this product is primarily positioned to compete with other synthetic vanilla extracts. Most shoppers of pure vanilla extract aren't willing to accept a product with artificial flavorings.
Use what you want when you want it but typically real vanilla is for low-heat cooking (eg ice cream, frosting, puddings, etc.) and imitation is for high heat (eg cakes, cookies, etc.) then you also have paste which you would use when you want vanilla to be the standout flavor (eg french vanilla ice cream, brulee, etc..)
I actually like the above because it has better flavor than the typical synthetic.

It's actually pretty good though if you're on a budget or need it for whatever reason and don't want to use your good vanilla

I'll bite...when do you need it and don't want to use real vanilla?

Water, Pure Vanilla Extract (2%), Ethyl Alcohol (1.8%), Propylene Glycol, Vanillin, Ethyl Vanillin, Caramel Color and Potassium Sorbate (as Preservative).
Thanks! The ethyl alcohol is actually worse for you than the propylene glycol. I personally don't like the taste of potassium sorbate when it's used in things like apple cider, but it's probably super low concentrations here. I watch my health pretty seriously, but I'd use this stuff.

I don't think you're ignorant, but ethyl alcohol is all over the food chain. Some may argue that it's miniscule, but it's not; especially considering that everything we eat contains a fruit or vegetable.

Ethyl alcohol is just vodka (or rather vodka is ~40% ethyl alcohol). And it's under 2% here. Pure vanilla extract is usually produced using ethyl alcohol too (35% alcohol to be specific).

pure is 10x more vanilla extract, so this stuff is probably more convenient for portioning.
i suggest people buy the 35% extract costco in store sells at well under $1 per ounce.
