Whenever purchasing a laptop from Dell Refurbished please make sure to check your specs carefully to make sure that it includes a camera, if it not listed in the specs it is not installed. A surprisingly large percentage DO NOT include cameras. MOST Dell laptops (anecdotally for me ALL that I have had to deal with this situation) include the wiring for the camera, but have a dummy module installed (just a piece of solid plastic). Non-camera equipped laptops also have a different bezel. Both pieces (camera and bezel) are generally available on eBay, commonly sold as a set and generally $30 or less shipped (usually from China so shipping could potentially take a while). Installation is fairly easy, google the laptop model PDF manual from Dell and it will have instructions (generally disconnect battery, pop off existing bezel with a plastic card or something similar, replace dummy module with camera, snap on new bezel).

Can't tell if these are touch screen or not, or how many nits. I'm guessing no, since it doesn't say anything about touch. There were several 1080 screen options on these when new.

yah good question, because you're right, there are a lot of different FHD panels these came with (250-400nit), ntsc 45% to sRGB 100%, etc

edit: it does appear that if it's touch, it'll say touch (there's one i7 touchscreen unit available at the moment and it says "touchscreen"), though don't know if itl'l _always_ say 'touch' if it's touchscreen?

14-inch, HD 1366 x 768, 60 Hz, anti-glare, non-touch, 45% NTSC, 220 nits, wide-viewing angle
14-inch, FHD 1920 x 1080, 60 Hz, anti-glare, non-touch, 45% NTSC, 250 nits, wide-viewing angle
14-inch, FHD 1920 x 1080, 60 Hz, anti-glare, non-touch, 100% sRGB, 400 nits, wide-viewing angle
14-inch, FHD 1920 x 1080, 60 Hz, anti-glare, touch, 72% NTSC, 300 nits, wide-viewing angle
14-inch, FHD 1920 x 1080, 60 Hz, anti-glare, touch, privacy, 100% sRGB , 300 nits, wide-viewing angle

I think you can be safe to assume that if you get the 1 touchscreen available, that it'll be 300 nits... but if you get nontouch.. i dunno how you'd know what you're getting

I recently had to return/exchange four of these things because they all arrived locked to a previous customer (which is a hassle to get corrected) or looking like it had been through a war, despite having a "grade A" rating. Whoever grades these things is quite generous with it. I'd hate to see what a "B" unit looks like.

This seems like it would be a perennial issue with Dell refurbished.com deals. No one has figured out a "tell" and Dell hasn't bothered to include differentiating info? If only they included a service tag ID or something in the listing.
The prospect of getting the garbage screen is 100% the difference between a deal and a hard pass.

These are kinda one of those things - you get what you pay for. I think they're a tremendous value myself, but they don't always come hassle free. I've now bought 3 from them. All rated B. The first was absolutely perfect and I'd give it a 10/10. The 2nd was also completely perfect w the exception it needed a new battery. I emailed Dell and they shipped me a new one (by new I mean new for me but prob another battery pulled out of another refurbed." However that battery works well. 9/10 on that unit. The 3rd unit looks fantastic but had a block of keys that didn't work. Dell sent me a new keyboard and after YouTubing how to replace the keyboard I got it going. However, replacing a laptop keyboard is a HUGE pain and I wouldn't recommend it. I was for sure that laptop would never work again lol, but I did it. Finally on that laptop, one of the speakers does not work. I didn't complain about that but it's still somewhat of an annoyance. I'd give that one a 6/10.

All in all though, these laptops were like $2000 brand new like 4 years ago. And i totally understand how fast tech moves, but for what these things are sold for, I still think it's a good value. $200 for a former $2000 laptop.

I'd easily buy one of these before the ole Best Buy $199 special.
