Depends on which msi mobo you previously owned. This board is a mid range board which is an excellent value for gaming. The higher end X570 offers additional features for better gaming experience. MSI rma process is still better than Asus just youtube Gamers Nexus. IMO GIGABYTE, MSI, or Asus have been my mobo of choice.

Last MSI board I bought a few months back, the usb2.0 and audio did not work on it. I have never had a board come broke like that before. Is MSI considered a crap brand now?

What is the best budget Am4 processor currently? Something roughly similar to an i5 or i7.

Sales going on for the x3d cpus. If primary use is games, I'd recommend one of those..

My current MSI board (B550 Tomahawk) developed a slight buzz in the speaker out. I swapped out every audio cable and even used different speakers. Still buzz. Everything is grounded and mounted correctly.

I've had this exact mobo for about 2 years and I've had no issues with it. No errors or anything with PBO enabled. I also use SAM with my 7800XT. I utilize pretty much every feature this board is capable of and it's performed very well.

A cheap fix would be an external USB sound card or an USB speaker.

I will be putting a 3060 video card in said build. However I don't game much at all. I used to like it but not sure I can enjoy it much anymore. I guess I would like the ability too, but I for sure don't need the fastest/latest/greatest technology.

Low-end MSI boards probably. I see tons of open-box MSI B650 boards at Microcenter for whatever reason. I've been on an MSI X570 board for 3 years and it's flawless along with an MSI RTX4060 GPU.

Other comments raise good points, but for me the deal breaker is DDR4 memory. DDR5 has been out for a while and has gotten pretty cheap. I realize some opt for a budget build, but software is only going to get more memory intensive. I'm looking to upgrade the mobo I've had for almost 10 years now, not looking to get stuck another decade with 1600/2400 MHz DDR4 when the most basic DDR5 modules start at 4800 or 6000 MHz

On a budget the best AM4 is a R5 5500:

$80 at Microcenter (in store), $87 at Amazon. About even to an i5 12500, but no video support.

I've heard really bad things about Asus and Gigabyte lately. Don't they have quality control issues?

R5 5500's performance is comparable to R5 3600/x. Although R5 5500 is on a Zen 3 architecture, but it is crippled to PCIe 3.0 and half the L3 cache as R5 3600/x. Even though R5 3600/x is on a Zen 2 architecture, it can utilize PCIe 4.0 offers by the X570 and B550 chipsets.

For about $35 more, it is worth to get R5 5600.
