As mentioned in my initial post, I'd personally recommend the combo at ~$405 for the 13900kf paired with the ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-H Gaming (WiFi 6E) or ASUS ROG Strix Z690-E Gaming WiFi 6E motherboard. The itx board is $40 cheaper, but it'll be a lot more limiting. I mainly used the itx board as an example for how cheap the combo can go.

Motherboard spec pages:
ROG STRIX Z690-I GAMING WIFI: https://rog.asus.com/us/motherboa...odel/spec/
ROG STRIX Z690-E GAMING WIFI: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards...odel/spec/
ROG STRIX Z790-H GAMING WIFI: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards...odel/spec/

Can't imagine trying to cool and power this in an itx build. Definitely grab a different board.

Newegg has a page explaining their policy for returning combo items: https://kb.newegg.com/knowledge-b...ombo-item/

In summary, if you return the board for a replacement (if for example it's defective), it's fine. However, if you try to refund one of the items in a combo, the combo discount will be subtracted from your refund.
So the combo discount on the board is $20 so would the refund for returning the board be just -$20? Or would they take the whole combo discount and cut it in half?

combo total discount. not the item you dont want. in this case you lose $302 not $20

Damn I accidentally chose the ASUS ROG Strix Z690-E board instead of the ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-H. Do I risk canceling and not getting the order to just change the boards?

I'm fairly certain they would subtract the entire combo up savings for all items. In this case, the combo up savings ($302) are actually higher than the price of the motherboard, so I believe you'd be required to return the cpu as well in order to get a refund.

I linked the spec pages for the motherboards in my post in the first page of this thread. The z690-e motherboard is actually asus's higher end sku (compared to the -h version), but uses the last generation chipset. The z790 chipset is only a minor improvement over the z690 chipset.

I ordered but not sure I need it. I'm currently running an i5 12400f and 4070 super. Is this CPU overkill for my lowly 4070 S?

Looks like the processor is out of stock.. I was a little too late getting in on it. Oh well.

Well crap, I listened to the other guy who recommended the z790-h

edit NVM that was you. I read too quickly and only saw the 790-h recommendation haha
