If you're deciding between the VS and the V, I highly recommend spending the extra and getting the V version. The difference is that it gives you access to booting to Android (as well as the native Linux system). This gives you access to downloading games that will only run on android, or even run much smoother on android.

I recently was able to download the fan-made PokeMMO to my RG353v. It has two options for download; PC or Android phones. Because I had the V version, I was able to install it just like I was installing on a phone. It even automatically recognized the handheld's button configuration.

There are other unique cases too; like rockstar re-releasing their GTA games for Android. These games are optimized to run on mobile chipsets and therefore will run much better on android versus trying to emulate a higher-end console (which this handheld will struggle with).

Feel free to ask if you have any questions about the handheld! I have the grey one and I love it Smilie.

I have the RG353P and installed the Google Play Store on the Android side the other day. It was interesting to see what I could get working on there.
For instance, I own the Final Fantasy III & IV 3D remakes for the Nintendo DS (and would play them on my 3DS). Instead of emulating the DS roms, I now play the Android versions on the RG353P, which (natively) have better visual fidelity than the DS carts or upscaling the ROMs using RetroArch on the Linux side. Even added YouTube and Tubi just to play around with streaming to a 3.5" 480p screen Wink

Tried Xbox Game Pass and while it worked mostly fine (some hiccups here and there, but more due to the distance from my router than the device itself), I couldn't get the app to recognize my L2 and R2 buttons, sadly. I find that PSP generally works better (for the games it doesn't struggle w/ running) on the Android side too (vs. in Linux mode).

I'm not familiar with that specific app, but yes you can download any Android app!

I forgot to add, the V version also includes a touch screen for ease of use with the android platform. I'll admit that with a smallish screen, it can be hard to accurately touch small things.

you are considering this, please take a serious look at the r36s as well. Great little device, similar or lower price point right now.

Bought the V for analog sticks + android. IMO this form factor isnt great for that. I never use them. Printed out a grip to make it more comfortable, but its not ideal. This price is good though.

Just get a RG35XX and if you want something more powerful get a bigger screen + better form factor.

While the R36S is the best emulation handheld that's regularly under $40, the quality of the controls and build are far below the Anbernic devices. Plus, the R36S has no WiFi, BT, or HDMI, which these all do. I think that for a $10-15 difference, there's no real reason to consider the R36S unless you have a totally firm $40 budget.

At this price the RG353V is probably the cheapest Android-based emulation handheld one can buy, and the performance on Android of N64, Dreamcast, DS, and PSP is better than on the Linux side.

However, I personally don't really want to play those systems on a device of this size and with this form factor, and a Linux based OS is a much better user experience than Android. I'd probably skip the Android option and go with the Linux-only VS.

But honestly, the RG35XX H is more ergonomic and cheaper than the RG353V/VS, with slightly worse performance. and if I could get one for ~$40, I'd choose it over either of these.
