don't get this, myQ sucks - they paywall some of their features with a subscription

and they recently shut off access to their APIs, generally very anti-consumer

if you want a solid alternative, look at the Tailwind iQ3 [gotailwind.com] which is a universal smart controller which will work with most any garage door(s)
If you really really really need 1.25 HP (and you shouldn't) then it's okay I guess. Ideally your garage door is balanced with springs so any given 1/2 HP unit should suffice. Then there's the camera which I don't know for sure but someone mentioned a subscription necessary. Lastly the battery which looks like $50-$60 to replace however often that may be. Personally I just have the standard 1/2 HP belt drive unit with the smart app and I am fine with it.
For recording yes. But works fine without the subscription for live streaming and motion notifications. Speaker and mic work great.

I think I read in another thread that the camera is subscription based?

This is a pretty standard sale price at Costco. They will eventually blow them out for as low as $99 if you watch it. I have picked one up at that price by just checking them every time I go into the store. They dropped to $199, then $149, then finally to $99. Last time I saw them drop was in March of this year.

IMHO I don't think this is a great deal. Last month Costco had a 1/2 hp smart opener for $150 without a camera:

I just installed it, stuck an Eufy camera on it and it works great without any subscriptions. I also use myQ app on my phone as well and happy with it.

The garage door opener itself is very good, the myq app and ecosystem is complete garbage.

Actively killing their home assistant integration makes this a non starter if you value any of the smartness of it. The future of smart homes is to have a one stop app that contains all of your smart devices... And not the future Chamberlain seems to think where people can only access their products through their proprietary app.

I don't like that myq doesn't integrate with anything anymore:
Why can't I set up a Bixby routine to automatically close the garage when I leave?
Why can't I have a button in android auto to open the garage?
I know, first world problems...

Does anyone know if the Genie brand is more user friendly with their smart function features vs the subscription of chamberlain or do both brands do it?

I recently installed this and it's fantastic. Fairly easy to install, retrofitted to my 20 year old garage door with no issues, and the camera feature is great. I forked over for the subscription camera feature because of all the people in our house that come in and out. Great product.

Been thinking about getting wall mounted garage door opener to save ceiling space.
