don't get this, myQ sucks - they paywall some of their features with a subscription

and they recently shut off access to their APIs, generally very anti-consumer

if you want a solid alternative, look at the Tailwind iQ3 [gotailwind.com] which is a universal smart controller which will work with most any garage door(s)

If you really really really need 1.25 HP (and you shouldn't) then it's okay I guess. Ideally your garage door is balanced with springs so any given 1/2 HP unit should suffice. Then there's the camera which I don't know for sure but someone mentioned a subscription necessary. Lastly the battery which looks like $50-$60 to replace however often that may be. Personally I just have the standard 1/2 HP belt drive unit with the smart app and I am fine with it.

For recording yes. But works fine without the subscription for live streaming and motion notifications. Speaker and mic work great.

So with this the wife can now call us in from the garage through the opener 2-way speaker when we purposely leave our phone inside the house...

Hmmm......

Actively killing their home assistant integration makes this a non starter if you value any of the smartness of it. The future of smart homes is to have a one stop app that contains all of your smart devices... And not the future Chamberlain seems to think where people can only access their products through their proprietary app.

I don't like that myq doesn't integrate with anything anymore:
Why can't I set up a Bixby routine to automatically close the garage when I leave?
Why can't I have a button in android auto to open the garage?
I know, first world problems...
You can buy/build a Ratgdo, but yeah, these are features that should be included natively. Better than paying a subscription, at least.

This. Don't do this seriously.

The fact that they have done so means they know they can get away. What's free today would all be subject to change - some corporate suit that is greedy and can make the decisions will eventually figure out a way to push you into subscription for whatever feature that is free today.

Or the other way, in 2035 they will say, "the premium you paid in 2024 for the smart will be down the drain because our server cannot support your 2024 hardware any more and we will have to shut down the features you have paid in the very beginning."

Does anyone know if the Genie brand is more user friendly with their smart function features vs the subscription of chamberlain or do both brands do it?
Buy a regular opener and add smart features for under $50 with devices like Meross

The reviews say this doesn't come with a wireless keypad but the photo and the item description says it does. Did they add the wireless keypad recently or is it a listing error and it's not included?

I was thinking about getting this but no keypad possibly, apparently the myq app thing sucks, the camera often has problems and can't record or save without a subscription, and it's an integrated led light so if it fails you have to replace the whole module just because the light failed.

In 2024 I don't see how a simple product like a garage door opener could have so many flaws out of the box.

Have the version without the camera and the benefit of the belt drive (quiet) and battery backup alone have been well worth it. App isn't great but basic open/close and check status are helpful.

Batteries are $15 - $20 at most unless you want the Chamberlain name on it.

I think I read in another thread that the camera is subscription based?
ONLY if you wish to have video recorded. It is free live.

I have used MyQ for a few years and completely disagree. The free offerings is all you need. You only choose to subscribe if you want monitoring or video recording options. I pay nothing and have had zero issues with MyQ.
