And uncle Tim knows this. That's why he wants you to pay ~$200 more for the extra 8gb. This one is just the bait to grab his extra profit selling the 16gb.

The 8GB shouldn't be a limiting factor for 99% of people who post here. I used one of these as my WFH system (which doubles as a small gaming system, I don't play much though, I use the PS5 for that), running Teams, Discord, Apple Music, Outlook, Excel, Messenger, a handful of Elgato apps to run their lights and a Stream Deck, and a dozen Safari tabs and my memory doesn't go into 'yellow' unless I don't reboot for a few days. If I reboot nightly it's never a problem.

I also use one on my recording setup, same config, running Logic with several add-in components or Final Cut Pro, again with no memory issues.

I upgraded to an M2 Pro for my WFH setup only because I bought a Dell u4025 monitor that supports a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the standard M2 didn't. I notice zero difference performance-wise and it was, to be honest, sort of a waste of money just to get smoother scrolling.

The 8GB shouldn't be a limiting factor for 99% of people who post here. Any good business knows this.

Car manufacturers have been doing this for years. This is a base model computer, just like a base model vehicle. You want seat warmers and a sunroof? Gotta upgrade.

I was so happy with my first Mac… Mac mini M1 however that experience is not the same when I switched to Mac mini m2. Both base models.

Been wanting to get something to replace my old Dell micro with an I7-6700T. It is only used for slicing with Orca Slicer and maybe later Fusion 360. Been thinking of getting a MacBook Air but this might be better.

As tempting as this deal is and 8GB appears to be sufficient at the moment, I'm thinking of it from a future proofing standpoint. By this, I mean a couple of years from now. Most people aren't upgrading their PCs every other year like cellphones.

Let me tell you how I tried to "future proof" both my 2017 12" retina MacBook and 2018 13" MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM, each. That did fine for about 3 years. Then M1 Macs w/8GB RAM came out and ran circles around each of those $1300-$1700 machines, at half the price(s)

If today you run crazy stuff that needs a lot of RAM, sure go ahead and get what you need. But there's really no such thing as 'future proofing' these days. If it can handle your workload today, it will handle a similar workload in 5 years.

Its clear you haven't tried Apple Silicon, its impressive even with 8gb Ram. I had a first model M1 MBP with 8gb ram for about 2 years, used heavy programs on it (adobe suite, final cut pro, some light rendering) and it handled quite well. So for basic use it would definitely be a solid choice.
