No go for California lol apparently they are saving us from ourselves again

Saw some people mentioning that you can't go up to a larger auger size with these units said they got bogged down with an 8 inch and couldn't even even turn a 10 inch

Yes I've owned one for bout 7 years and it's dug probably 750 holes 24-30" deep clay soil. Starts 1-2 pulls with good non ethanol fuel…every spring it starts like I just put it up. Of course run dry after last yearly use. Not the strongest motor but gets the job done,

I would agree with 8-10" auger but I dig 4-5 holes around main hole and push edges of dirt in and shovel out and end up with great tree hole…it's not much $$$ in comparison to others

If mainly for posts 6x6 max then works well. Just be careful as it can spin out if you try to single hand it. Depending on soil hardness I'd suggest watering said digging area

It's cheap enough that if you are building your own fence the time and effort it saves would be worth it for that one job alone. Normal day rent for a somewhat better auger is around $60.

I didn't have much luck with augur for some rather large holes for deck footings. Instead, a Bosch SDS plus rotary hammer with 'clay spade' did a much better job. That's the tool I'd suggest for DIY.

6 inch holes are generally not big enough for fence posts or deck supports, assuming you're using concrete.

I've had the same auger for 6 years. I have had a similar experience. It has put in numerous fences for myself and friends. I would purchase again if I needed to but it is still running great!
