So you can return stuff on final sale w that card?
J crew may make a one time exception to take it back if you haven't previously returned final sale items. It's not a chance I'd take but I would try them first before credit card route.

Half canvas or half fused?
Technically the same thing. Half canvassed means the other half is fused.

Could I wear the jacket without the pants, Dress it down? Or is it too formal looking for that?
The issue with wearing a suit jacket dressed down is the texture/weave. It's a dressy look and doesn't match a pair of jeans or chinos. If the jacket is a coarser/rougher weave, then it should be fine. Most people won't know or can't tell the difference, but those who _know_ how to dress can tell.

I agree with you on texture/weave - but for this jacket, I don't see an issue dressing it down. Am I missing something? I have a good sense of blending formal tops and and and more casual bottoms but I'm no aesthete when it comes to fashion.

I agree, it looks like it'd be fine from the picture, but it's hard without being able to zoom in further. Any sort of sheen/shine would be a no-go for me.

Great suit -- it's what I wore at my own wedding. But this only makes sense if you already know your fit for this particular suit.

If you have a good tailor can't you just make the necessary adjustments? I would just buy the bigger size if you're in between sizes.
I spent a lot of time last year researching suits for my wedding, and learned a few things about what is & isn't able to be fixed at a tailor.

The jacket HAS to fit in the shoulders and really needs to fit in the waist as well. Adjusting shoulders is going to be very expensive and probably not turn out right, and the waist is also difficult to get right unless it's pretty close. Jacket length can be done, but it's hit and miss. Basically, you want shoulder width, waist and jacket length as close as possible. Arm length can usually be fixed easily but within reason.

Pants have a bit more flexibility. Length and waist size can be fixed most of the time, but also within reason. You're not going to take a 42 waist pants down to a 36 and have them look right. Inseam is important and having enough material in the thigh is also.

So all that to say: you really can't just go up a size like normal clothing and expect a tailor to fix it and make it look right. Even if you did find a tailor to do this, it'd cost a fortune. Pants are more forgiving so you can go up a size on those most of the time, but the jacket has to be close. If you wear a size 42 jacket, you really should stick to that and pick the right fit (slim, modern, classic, etc.) that matches your waist.

Do the pants have to be above the ankle bone and expose myself to everyone like a common 18th century harlot?

This is the 21st century, and your ankles will be objectified whether you like it or not!
