When you apply this stuff watch out for the razor sharp edges that will easily slice off pieces of flesh.

FYI this isn't really for blocking road noise via wheel wells, or even from isolating from external noises. This is primarily to reduce resonance in sheet metal due to vibrations from bass, or for reducing the hollow sound/feel when tapping on the door panels. To block road noises you'll be better off with closed cell foam >= 2cm thick. Although the butyl in this is still mass and will have some effect, that's not its primary purpose.

That said, after doing all my doors/hood with this, I'm in for another pack. Going to add as a first layer on my wheel wells then add foam on top of it. I've also added it to the sheet metal in dryers.

Been around forever, Dynamat is the main brand. It's basically what carmakers already use to reduce noise and vibration in door panels, so car stereo people love to add more. But it also just generally makes the car quieter and panels feel more "solid" without adding the weight of thicker steel/aluminum.

But color me surprised that Amazon Basics is in this business…how much longer until they sell prefab house kits like Sears used to do?

Sold under different brand names. I used Scosche "Accumat" when tuning automotive sound systems for Harman International back in the 90s.

I wonder how much this would add to my 2 10" JL's if I just lined my trunk with this stuff

I've been thinking of adding something to the inside of my water heater/HVAC closet to dampen the sound. Anyone have thoughts of using this for that purpose or a better product for this application?

Rockwool would probably be a better choice

Has a few uses. This is one of those things if you don't know what it's for you shouldn't be buying it. It's for specific uses and builds.

It can help with that (not wind noise, but chassis vibration in general). But popular in car stereo because it stops the panels from rattling from the speakers, too

Yep.

I added this to my trunk on my convertible since the exhaust drones a bit. Noticeable change in cabin noise with the top up.

It depends on where the noise is coming from, for example I was thinking of doing something like this for my washing machine, most of the noise comes from the vibration of the metal chassis, something like this would make a huge difference in the noise, but if the noise you're dealing with is not vibration based but more fan or motor-based, someone mentioned insulation, it just depends on what kind of noise you're trying to reduce
