I was in my local target store today and saw they had a 55 inch Westinghouse Roku television on sale for 84.99. The sale started today but they only had the floor model. I was able to get two in S Plainfield, NJ for the same price. The online link is for reference. The DCPI # is 008-09-0064. I used my target card and saved an additional 5% and there was an offer on target circle to get a $10 gift card when you are over $100. Reviews aren't great but for this price I'm going to put it in my garage.

43% 1-star reviews is something I don't remember seeing on any TV and that makes $85 expensive, even if someone can replicate. TVs are not use and throw.
Exactly. It's a fair estimate that 86 TVs out of 200 died, and it's no easy feat to dump a dead TV. You can't just put it in a recycle bin. Often you have to pay someone to take it off your hands. Target really shouldn't be using their customers as dumpsters. These TVs should go back to Westinghouse and let them recycle them.

I just picked one up, thanks OP. I paid full price online for store pickup and when i got to store i did the pickup/return/buy again thing and no issues at all. I even had a $15 target circle code to make this even sweeter.

It's not at all a "fair estimate". People who have a bad experience are much MUCH more likely to leave feedback than positive. Even if every Target only had 5 units that's 10k units sold in the US with only 200 feedbacks of which 80~ are negative. You can't extrapolate out from reviews which are self selected out to a population data. More likely the failure rate is at least an order of magnitude lower than your estimate. That would still be absurdly high, but nothing like 43% failures lol.

Actually, I have this TV and it works fine but will only work for 2 - 3 years. This is my 2nd one and the first one lasted a little more than 2.5 years. I think that is what a lot of the negative reviews are for - but for $85 it definitely is worth it for 2 to 3 years.

Huh? Where do you live where they won't take things like this? I literally just put my TVs out on the curb and they get taken with the rest of the trash. I had to call in advance with old, heavy TVs but these lighter, smaller models nobody cares. A 55" would probably fit in a large trash/recycling tub too. If I put it out a day early our 'trash diving patrol' often takes them.

If my kids would stop throwing the football around I'd have less experience at this.

You're not living on the West Coast, that's for sure. I'm betting you're in a red state somewhere. If I want to dispose of any electronic equipment I need to take it to a local recycling store where they charge by the pound... and it ain't cheap.

An order of magnitude [wikipedia.org] would have failure rates at maybe 5% which would be too low IMHO. Otherwise you're right, but you don't see review scores like these every day. They are really bad.

The reviews aren't great not least because these have a very high failure rate. How cheap is cheap enough for a TV to last 18 months and then require you to dispose of it because it's out of warranty and not worth fixing?
Again this is $85; not $350.

Ridiculously silly to have high 'Samsung' level expectations on low tier brand 55" TV. If this suddenly stop working after 6 months, $ is already worth it. It a low risk high reward deal.

Westinghouse is made by Funai. If it's made by Funai, I usually just walk on by. But if you can find it at that price, it would be worth it. Just purchase the extended warranty.

A true price glitch.. or a, "oh, we could easily resell those, so we're holding them in the back for employees" price glitch
That is the exact "glitch" I was thinking. I am like 99% sure the target near me has employees that stash all the good deals. They always show in stock, but no one can ever find anything.

The TV lasted the first night so its already paid for, haha.

BTW I know how I got the $15 Target circle offer. I had an offer to get $15 if I spend $150 at target. I spent over $150 when I purchase the TV via online and it was added to my account when the TV was picked up. Used the $15 when rebuying TV so I got TV for $70.

I just stopped at my Target in 32404. They had 3 in stock and the manager told me they aren't selling them right now because there is a price glitch.
Nice-they always try to get out of it!
