I just need something a little more powerful than my 6 core 4500u, 15.6-16 inch, and 300 nits at least.
Dont mind refurbished. Dont need a dedicated gpu. But need video out over usb c, and have an hdmi.

Why does Lenovo keep using these 250-nit 45% NTSC screens? They're awful.

Presumably they are awfully cheap too, lol.

To compete with prices from HP and Dell, who also offer these screens to corporate customers.

Because most consumers in this price range don't know what a nit is. They're just looking for the cheapest passible device. So if they use a higher quality screen, they're going to lose sales, especially corporate sales, to their competitors who offer lower prices with cheaper screens.

Don't let the newer generation fool you. It's a Ryzen 3 with 4 cores, 8GB RAM and worst of all you're getting a 1366 x 768 TN Panel. The specs posted in OP completely trump this one.

If I were in the market for a laptop, I would get this one. It checks most of my boxes. The 256GB SSD is a bit small, but it is easily upgraded (standard M2 slot). I don't game, so this is a perfect, solid choice.

It's 328.98 via the Lenovo Ebay store. Plus you get the 2 year allstate warranty vs the 1 year Lenovo.

Solid laptop, but buyers be aware, if I'm not mistaken this one has a 2242 sized m.2 slot, which sits in a particular position on the motherboard, only allowing single sided 2242 m.2 drives (or 2230 with an adapter), similar to ones used on a steam deck and other smaller devices, which makes upgrading internal storage a tad more expensive than usual.

Also available from ebay [ebay.com]at a cheaper price including free shipping.

Source: bought one, planned on using my existing 2tb 2280 m.2 but apparently won't be able to.

Really tempted by this model. A few notes:
  • The SSD is a M.2 2242, so you can't use a 'full length' M.2 2280 drive in it. To use the M.2 2230 size that is popular from the Steam Deck, etc, you'll need an adapter.
  • The upgradable RAM seems good, but apparently compatibility with speeds/latencies is a bit spotty.
  • The 5875U (and 5850U) appear to be minor refreshes of the 5825U, so that's a good benchmark check.
  • ThinkPad Linux compatibility is generally good. This model appears to be certified for Ubuntu: https://ubuntu.com/certified/202204-30188
  • The dim screen is a bit of a bummer. I have a ThinkBook 14 ITL with a 300 nit glossy screen that is... fine, so I suspect this would be somewhat disappointing by comparison.
  • I do wish it had USB4/Thunderbolt. I know TB on non-Intel laptops is usually out of the question, but USB4's eGPU support is the answer.
  • The L-series is a lower-end ThinkPad with a plastic case, instead of the Magnesium-reinforced case on higher-end models. There will be some flex.
