I would refrain from spending even a single dollar on any drone right now nothing against DJI. I own 3 myself. But the latest drone ban act will make your drone purchase useless
Real question: How will it make it useless? I'm guessing that the ban will "disable" previous purchases too?

DJI drones have geo zones, you can't fly one anywhere inside the beltway in DC for example (large area). They could theoretically very easily expand it to the whole US and your drone won't work anywhere.

I have a Mavic Air 2. How does that compare to this, besides the obvious size? I got it during Covid and used it for some awesome road trips. It's been collecting dust since because I have a large Pelican case for it w/ all it's accessories. It'd be nice to throw it in a backpack without worrying about damage.
I also have a Mavic Air 2 that I purchased when it was released 4 years ago. I recently added a mini 3 and I feel like it's a nice compliment to owning a MA2. The mini 3 can fly in nearly the same wind levels, takes just as good as photos/videos I'd say. I like that it COULD be taken to other countries more easily because it's sub 250g weight and portability. The only real issue I have is that it's lacking obstacle avoidance sensors (mini 3 pro has it though). But, I'd say it's a good one to get overall..

Thanks for that info. I may end up just selling it on eBay as it's just collecting dust. It will be nice to see what the future holds before I invest in another one.

these are geofenced i presume? can't fly anything where i live, big no fly zone. the proposed ban is just on sales and not a nationwide geofence?
Yeah. I was a bit surprised at the number of restrictions (yes I totally get that these HAVE to be geo fenced around things like flight paths) and was aware of bans in busy areas like national parks but went to enough small parks where it was a no fly zone that I'm more wary about packing this on trips

Drones are now banned in any nice place, the only thing you can use it for is to inspect your roof and gutters.

Ban won't matter if you already bought it
Are you sure the DJI app that controls these will not get banned too? This deal doesn't seem to have the all-in-one controller.

Do you have a link? Last I saw, it was being written and soon to hit the president's desk. My searches this morning aren't yielding results. TIA.

Where in the bill does it say that? I just read it and could find no reference to anything that would impact DJI equipment that consumers already own.

Technically you have to be 107 to do that. Don't worry though, no one will get in your face about it.

Like another post mentioned, if you can convince the FAA you're doing it for fun you'd be OK.

Mini 3 has tracking back correct? I can get it to follow me? I have a Mini 2 which is great but really miss the tracking features

What I'm worried is that if they ban DJI then the app will somehow stop working and your drone will become useless.

Apple and Google will probably ban the app from their App Store but I don't think they'll remotely delete the app from your phone. However whatever company was hosting servers for DJI might stop servicing them making the app useless and therefore the drone as well.

I believe the vote to ban DJI is tomorrow but who knows when it'll go the senate for a vote and then the White House.
