It's not to protect you. It's because American drone manufacturer's cannot compete due to higher price and shittier product. So they lobbied the politicians to ban DJI. Lobbying is how most things are done at the Capitol.

I know there will be plenty of drone police out there all up on me for this comment but sometimes, if you have to fly, you have to fly. I was in a national park Sunday and was sorely tempted to fly it just to get some footage. How is this intrusive in any way really? The park is massive, I'd fly higher just so no one can hear it. And it'd be a 3-5 min flight. What is the penalty for getting caught? And it seems really impossible for them to catch you doing it.

That said, I ended up not doing it but am still pissed. Plenty of loud visitors and litterers that would have a much bigger footprint than me and my mini 2 drone.

So what is the latest on RemoteID? I've got a mini 1 which does not have hardware for remote ID, and frankly don't think info ought to be shared (happy to use old, disconnected device with no cell service to control).

How is it implemented in the mini 3? is it always talking to the FAA with remoteID?

Meh. The Mini 3 is not a big upgrade from the Mini 2. The Mini 3 Pro is a big upgrade with obstacle avoidance.
