Ban won't matter if you already bought it

It's not to protect you. It's because American drone manufacturer's cannot compete due to higher price and shittier product. So they lobbied the politicians to ban DJI. Lobbying is how most things are done at the Capitol.

Now how do I get a cheap Costco membership I have Sam's in BJ's but not Costco unless Sam's or BJ sells and price matches? just reading online that I can buy membership and cancel anytime for a full refund is this correct? I have the mini too but I'm looking to get the mini 3 for the upgraded camera

Drones are now banned in any nice place, the only thing you can use it for is to inspect your roof and gutters.
Actually not. It's illegal in a lot of places to take off and land, but you could theoretically fly over those places whilst taking off/landing elsewhere. There's sometimes gray rules on things like this, for example the flight elevation rule - you cannot fly higher than 400ft, BUT if you come within feet of a higher object, you can fly up to that object's height and then you have a new altitude limit above that object.

I would refrain from spending even a single dollar on any drone right now nothing against DJI. I own 3 myself. But the latest drone ban act will make your drone purchase useless
I'll just send mine to Ukraine after the ban. They'll find something fun to do with it.

Can anyone comment, if this DJI ban does occur, do current owners of drones have a paperweight?

Then use Litchi

Will be subject to the same restrictions and because VC Technologies is London based I doubt they would go against them.

A little bit different scenario with the majority of manufacturing now located in China. Banning or heavy tariffs means substantially higher prices. If you're wanting to piss off voters, hurting them economically is the best way to do it.

I don't disagree with your sentiment, but pragmatically, it's a big ask for politicians to actually risk their positions for principled objectives.
The long term solution is to migrate some manufacturing to other third world countries like India. Also with automation a lot of the manufacuring can come back to US economically as well.

If done right I.e in a phased manner aka only ban a couple at a time, the Chinese have enough incentive to keep the US China trade in play. We need strong politicians and a consistent policy for this.

Enough of politics. Beyond me. Better to not venture opinions on topics I know less off.

A ban won't disable your drone. Though I doubt they'll manage to force it down our throats, if they did, there would still be sideloads and alternative methods. In fact, banning would reduce security by taking the apps off of official app stores that are monitored and scrutinized.

They will still work. There's even alternate apps that can control the drones (such as Litchi). There's a dozen ways to get around geo-fencing. For the conspiracists.. what do you think china is getting from these drones? Vacation photos? They don't stream photos and videos. Analysts would be screaming from the rooftops (politicians are NOT analysts).

Mini 3 is an awesome drone. This is a killer price. Though this drone lacks APAS obstacle avoidance found in the pro. It's powerful, but if "follow me" isn't super important, this is a great model at this price point. If you do, mini 3 pro is $200 more and worthwhile.

Wow DJI is just as dangerous as Huawei. That article is crazy.

I can't believe the US puts up with this crap for such a long period of time. TikTok still isn't banned to this date although it's extremely dangerous.

I had no idea DJI is collecting so much critical information using it's millions of drones in US skies every day.

Shame on Costco for selling it.
Wait, how did you get any of that from the AP article? Where does it say how much critical information is being collected? I don't see any comparison to Huawei.

Mini 3 has tracking back correct? I can get it to follow me? I have a Mini 2 which is great but really miss the tracking features
mini 3 does not have MasterShots and Hyperlapse ..so no active or focus tracking... it does have QuickShots and some people use one of these to "trick" the mini 3 into tracking them.... not the best but for some it works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2YA1A0lSbA

That is NOT true. The ban will impact all existing DJI drones and other products.

Meh. The Mini 3 is not a big upgrade from the Mini 2. The Mini 3 Pro is a big upgrade with obstacle avoidance.
and the follow feature.

This has been debunked repeatedly. They could at some time in the future rescind the equipment authorizations, at which time you'll need to make a personal decision.

Show me where we see that existing equipment would be grandfathered in. Because everyone in the DJI forums and on Reddit are showing nothing but a total ban on all existing and new hardware.

CCP doesn't need DJI drones to spy on us. This is only a ploy by DJI competition to bring it down and it will result in much higher prices of "American" drones that will still be made in China but will be only drones available for purchase here.
