It's not to protect you. It's because American drone manufacturer's cannot compete due to higher price and shittier product. So they lobbied the politicians to ban DJI. Lobbying is how most things are done at the Capitol.

Something no one has mentioned here. If you have a pilots license a drone violation is considered by FAA to be the same as any other aircraft violation and can result in your license being pulled.

Can someone educate me how DJI drones are able to be flown in Ukraine if they're supposedly geo locked from operating in that area?

Also, if the DJI/China ban does go thru, are there any decent alternatives for non-Chinese drones?

If anyone is considered about the ban, first of all the ban doesn't apply to any of the current dji drones out right now, only the future ones that are going to come out. Second of all, I would buy the RC controller for mini 3 because the regular controller hooks up to your phone to see the drone which your phone could overheat and stuff. Seems like best buy has the mini 3 and RC for $150 more.
