Aside from all the jokes, this is what we use to pound out tenderloins. If you are not from the midwest, tenderloins are thin boneless porkchops that are dredged in eggs and then thoroughly coated in cracker crumbs. You then fry them in oil in a skillet. They are basically the same as German schnitzel except they are served as a sandwich on buns. The meat is generally twice the size of the bun. You can garnish with lettuce, yellow mustard, dill slices.
STUPID IDEA TO USE ALUMINUM

Meat product that can't go in the dishwasher.
Many will be thrown away after first oxygenation.

FAILS
- no dishwasher
- ultra lightweight
- aluminum cast is not as strong (China)
etc.

When Kitchenaid puts its goofy designed-to-fail handles on a hand tool, the resulting product should be worth less, not more. How are solid aluminum meat tenderizers not a once-in-a-lifetime purchase?

Have needed one of these. Is this one good quality or is there a better one for similar price?

I have one, personally I would prefer the handle to be a bit longer. I use it if I need the textured side, otherwise I use a plastic tent stake mallet.

I also disregard the "hand wash only" and it's been fine. Not sure why they say that, it's just aluminum and plastic, it may oxidize the aluminum being put in the dishwasher, but I didn't buy it to look pretty...

Why wouldn't this be made of iron? Aluminum is so light weight.

This discolors and will give off a weird residue if you put it through the dishwasher. Would recommend not buying this one.

No, this is like getting a sledge hammer made of bubbles and knee pads made of daffodils. Get this or similar in real steel:

My wife broke this exact mallet when she used it to hit the cleaver that was stuck in the chicken. I guess it wasn't designed for that task but it was not like anything that's terribly rough. So I used the regular hammer - 1 hit & done.
