I mean you are talking about several thousand dollars for a high quality and almost bespoke handmade knife. Of course it won't compare to this mass produced Zwilling version (that is still a super good knife btw).

If the 8" Kramer knife was actually made by him, they'd be worth it. Otherwise, meh.

Don't want any kind of set, but an 8" PRO on sale from either Zwilling or Wusthof will be a buy for me.

If you want a self sharpening block with a 20 piece set, look at Costco. It's $189 with free shipping.

Zwilling and Wusthof are top tier western mass produced knives, both have been around for over 100 years. I have both Zwilling and Wusthof chef knives (a couple variations of each, I thrift and restored them) and I tend to reach for the Wusthof more often, just something about the way it balances in the hand.

I only hear the name CangShan from Costco shoppers, never tried them myself.

it may be worth to compare these sale prices to prices in some other places. For example, 7" Pro chef knife is $99 in this deal, currently sold on Amazon for $85 (shipped from Amazon, sold by third party). IDK about how common knock-offs are for these.

I bought this one in the last sale and it's very high quality. Obviously a step below the Zwilling / german tier , but excellent construction and weight. It's sharp, but not razor sharp because a cleaver is for breaking bones and not slicing.

I wouldn't recommend a cleaver for most people unless you are breaking down large cuts often. And even for breaking down cuts I would recommend a scimitar for beef and a boning knife for chicken.

For chopping vegitables try the Chris Kimball Nakiri knife. It's tall like a cleaver with good knuckle positioning, but light, thin and razor sharp to rip through veggies like cabbage, carrots, bell peppers its.

Yeah it's for breaking down large meats. Got my nakiri/boning/chinese veg cleaver on deck already. = )

Rounding out the kit.

Thanks

Slightly cheaper to buy the 4-star 5.5" prep knife from Swiss Kinfe Shop, even with Zwilling 15% new customer discount. Zwilling's $7 shipping charge for the $40 knife is the primary difference. Also Swiss Knife Shop doesn't charge sales tax for Maryland address. Not sure what's up with that.

Please point me where I can get a Bob Kramer knife under $1,000 and actually in stock. The last time I saw one of his "pre-own" chef knife listed for sale was 2 years ago for $9,500.
