I also think the Windows on ARM revolution is going to start soon. However, 32gb and 1TB is going to cost you twice as much, and some people almost never move their laptops, treating them like desktops (looks more minimalistic on a desk). This is a very good deal if you don't need dedicated graphics. Qualcomm's exclusive deal with Windows is going to expire soon, and MediaTek is ready with their newest chips, even if they are not as advanced. But imagine things like student devices, which are so prevalent right now in the US - lower cost, longer battery life, and efficiency. It's going to happen, and everyone saying that x86 will never die needs to understand that with AI advancing as quickly as it is, many exclusively x86 software applications can be re-written as optimized apps for ARM.

I didn't even realize there was a whole Qualcomm Microsoft deal. Will be nice for sure to see more competition transform our tech space. I have a Samsung galaxy book 360 gen 1 with i7 11th gen and while the battery life is nice at around 6-8 hours I'm excited for what the new generation will bring. I have an iMac and the power of the M1 is amazing. MacBooks right now are just too bulky and no touchscreen compared to this dragonfly and the galaxy book. I carry mine in my arm open the majority of the day while working and walking around. I'm happy to see Microsoft is at least catching up

There will be more sales of these kind of pc laptops. In the starting age of AI, i7-13xx+32gb without dgpu feels very much left out. Try to run a local LLM? I don't even know where to start on this one.

Intels chips are kind of a joke right now. On desktops where they can just throw power at the problem they're not terrible (but super hot), but on laptops they are getting embarassed by Apples M series and now the new Qualcomm chips. I can't imagine buying one right now, just the worst possible time to give Intel your money.

The new 'co-pilot' laptops Microsoft is pushing are the new ARM based ones that should rival/compete head to head with the M series chips from Apple. Some speculate that is one of the reasons that Apple skipped M3 and went right to M4 to get ahead of the push.

At least right now the Snapdragon laptops are a giant what if.

I'm absolutely not convinced by fake benchmarks, we're literally a week away from release and not a single review has come out.

The Software Engineer in me says the following.

The Snapdragon Laptops are amazing, when they work, but are absolutely horrible when they run into use cases where they don't.

You have gaming benchmarks, but according to the official Microsoft docs anti cheat ( most multiplayer games ) won't work. Anything with a custom driver probably won't work. I imagine the X86 emulator will run into all types of weird edge cases.

Plus Recall is really concerning.

I don't feel like beta testing for Microsoft. Let them work the kinks out, buy a Snapdragon laptop in a few years.

Really depends on your workload. If you need:
Porsche - Intel
Pinto - Arm

Two different chips for two different needs. A lot of people are quick to just say "one is better".

Anyway, nice find, this is close to the Thinkpad NANO. I have a nano g1, and it's been fantastic and mine has the better screen option..

Those laptops are almost all $1100+ and unreleased, also Intel's Core Ultra lineup (Meteor Lake) already existed for 6 months and is far more efficient than the 13th gen laptops, though the real equal is Lunar Lake which launches in a few months.

I also would NOT recommend the snapdragon laptops, as Windows on ARM is still garbage. 99.99% of applications for Windows are written to only support x86-x64 (so only Intel and AMD), this means that basically every application has to be translated to ARM, which means efficiency and performance take a hit, and some applications straight up crash or have issues do to that. This isnt reflected in benchmarks as these days almost every benchmark natively supports ARM.
The other issue is GPU drivers, in ARM based benchmarks the iGPU looks great, but in actual games it underperforms both Intel and AMD's existing iGPUs because the drivers are bad and will require years of work.

If you are concerned about power efficiency, get Core Ultra today via Meteor Lake or wait for Lunar Lake, or get Zen 4.

M3/M4 absolutely demolishes the Intel chips and the new Snapdragons are going to rival the M3/M4 so no reason to think they won't run laps around the Intel chips like Apple does. Intel has been living off their brand name for a long time and has had very little improvement that wasn't forced upon them by competition. AMD cleaned their clock in the 'core wars' forcing Intel to innovate and now Apple and Qualcomm are coming at them for the mobile market. Intel will eventually get their products sorted out, but they just play catch up at this point, they're never innovating anymore.

Again, great for light tasks like pulling up a recepie. The Dragonfly would be a great lightweight laptop.

13 Gen Intel are fine. If you need something now, this is a good deal, although I don't understand people who want tiny 13 inch screens. I think with small bezels, 16 or 17 inches is the sweet spot. As always, new technology is around the corner.
