Based on very confusing documentation on Google's support page, I'm assuming this router is going to receive critical security updates starting this year. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It appears this router is several years old, so it seems surprising (and alarming) if critical security updates are only starting this year. Better than abandoning it, I suppose.

Asus 68u seems to be a good one and you can try to upgrade with Merlin firmware.
Also, why not buy professional AP like used Aruba? It is more powerful and provides better spec than this.
For ex, used Aruba 345? https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_...=0&_sop=15

Like how? I have mine wired to my modem, then I use the ethernet out on it to an unmanaged switch that handles the ethernet to the rest of the house. Works fine for that.

I already have a nest two point system. Can I use this as another access point to improve my coverage?

PSA

Not sure if it is this seller or another similar one selling the router for the same price. Often times they sell EU or Asian version of this to NA customers, so you may have all sorts of issues. Make sure it can be returned if it is marked for sale outside the US.

Please note, this will not integrate or extend with the 6e Tri-Band Wifi Pro's (G6ZUC). That model uses the 6ghz channel for the mesh backbone, not the 2.4/5ghz, so this will not work to expand a new setup if you only have the 6es. I was hoping to cover a spot in the bedroom but looks like I will have to wait for a deal on the 6e version. Thank you OP!

No need for mesh. I want to hardwire this to a managed switch as the AP for my IOT VLAN. I would prefer this be able to handle at least two SSID's, one for each frequency and on their own separate VLANs though.
