I am not a pro chef but made a concerted effort to really learn, outside of baking.

First be honest with how into cooking you really are. If not going to make a lifelong hobby out of it then the all clad may not be worth it, however if you will be cooking a pan sauce a few times a week then you must treat yourself to the 12" all clad stainless with lid for around $100. Every restaurant you go to will be full of stainless cookware for a reason.

Second I would get a set of non stick, but none of these last. In my opinion for non stick get an 8 and 10 inch OXO pans. Highly rated and very affordable. No non stick is going to last so these are perfect and not painful to replace in a few years.

Finally must have a cast iron skillet and your basic Lodge brand is great for this.

I own a couple of all clad stainless sauce pans which were a treat to myself, absolutely worth it but they can be added down the line. The 12" stainless pan should be priority.

All the fad technology like hex clad are a joke.

Lastly if you want to really learn some great cooking I can't recommend Chef John's YouTube channel, Food Wishes, enough. Real cooking, no fluff

12" with lid is excellent. I also like the sauté pans.

Just learn to cook with stainless and you'll never use anything else

If I want to buy one, which one do you good folks suggest? I am frustrated with all the teflon coatings

Mother of all pans is sold out sadly. But the 12 inch is a good alternative for stainless steel

If I could only have one pan for the rest of my life, it would be an All-Clad 3.5qt saute pan.

I haven't used all clad before, or any really expensive pans, but I've been reading online that copper cores are a LOT better than aluminum, can anyone who's used both tell me if they prefer another brand with copper core over all clad? There so much info online, I'm kinda overwhelmed, but SD people have never been wrong when recommending me a product Smilie

Any appreciable difference between D3 and D5? Once you go 5-layer you don't go back?
