I don't know anything about Wyze v4.

I have several of the Wyze V3s and several of the Tapo C120s, and they're all good, but the C120s are better for my use case:

Tapo pros:
Reliable live view
Reliable recording to microsd
Native RTSP support
Easy access to microsd recordings by zooming in on timeline or playing at 4x
AI includes vehicles, pets, and people
Tapo cons:
No rich notifications in mobile app

Wyze v3 pros:
Reliable live view
Reliable recording to microsd
Rich notifications
free cloud backup of 12 second event videos
cons:
5-minute cool-down period between notifications
AI for people only
Tedious to find events that occur during cool-down period without pulling microsd
No native RTSP, but there are workarounds like Tinycam pro

Overall, if you want live view and microsd recording just-in-case then they both work fine. If you're fine with the 5-minute-cool-down-period then Wyze v3 has better notifications. If you need to regularly review events that could happen more frequently than every 5 minutes (i.e. did mailman come 2 mins after a car drove by) then Tapo is the way to go.

Both offer more features if you pay monthly, but I can only speak to the free plans.

PSA: For those only on Cam Plus Lite (discontinued for new users earlier this year), be aware there is an app bug (which is affecting more & more people as time passes), where adding/activating a new cam to your account - such as a v3, will either cause the "Playback" button during Events to be greyed out (if on an older version of the app) or will say there is no MicroSD Card installed (if on the newer/latest version of the app).

Viewing Playback with a MicroSD Card through Live View still works, it's only the Playback (direct view to timestamp on SD card) in the Event Clips that is bugged.

So users now have to either write down or memorize the exact time, then go to Live View, then Playback & scroll to the time to see the full event (before & after the 12 second clip).

This bug first appeared around February 2024, a Wyze Employee claimed in April they found the cause, but so far there is still no fix & honestly doesn't look like they'll fix it since we're on the free grandfathered Cam Plus Lite subscription.

Here are some of the more active threads about this issue:

I loved my Wyze cams over the years, they were cheap simple and just worked.

Pre-ordered V4 off their site, apparently it came with a free subscription that was activated at purchase, I was billed a month later and even after contacting their CS they would not refund me. Note that the cams weren't even opened yet. Y u do dis wyze?

Their move to aggressive sub models is gross.

Thanks for listening to my sadpepe story.

Does the wyzecam 3 work with the free camlite plus plan that one uses with an old wyzecam 2? Someone said you can with the camlite plan Can you buy this at the store or it has to be online?

The thing is I know someone who had a costco membership but they no longer have it. They then have other friends who are costco members who would help them buy a few $25 or $50 costco cards so that they can go to costco and buy things without a membership.

How would I be able to buy this wyzecam 3 without having a membership? A while back when the person I know had a current costco membership, they put my name in the account as you can have 2 people in a costco membership right? So I was able to order a laptop online from costco at the costco member price. Is there a way I can get this at costco member plan somehow? Could I pay an additional I think 10% for it being a nonmember?
I count 6 questions. First comment record?

Yes, the v3 was the last model released with camlite plus support (at least until Wyze changes their mind).

V3 can also be modded with custom firmware, look up wz mini hacks. Probably the best value on the market for $20 a piece

Okay so can someone explain to me how I can get it at this price if not currently a costco member? Can I buy it as a non member and I believe you pay an extra x percent more or something like that? That doesn't seem bad if shipping is free?
Just buy a membership and be done e with it. It's money well spent, unless you don't have one nearby.

The Wyze cam v4 is on sale at the Wyze store for $25.98 and the Wyze cam pan v3 is on sale for $29.98.

Plus an additional $5 back on purchases over $50 & $10 on purchases over $75.

Free shipping on orders over $79.

What does everyone generally recommend between Wyze and TP Link Tapo cams such as the one linked below?

I'm trying to decide between Wyze V4s and this one (TP Link Tapo C120):

Have 7 V3. Just got the V4. Unfortunately did not know that they are not compatible with cam plus lite. The difference in image quality is a big jump, audio as well as spotlight. BUT. It's not worth loosing cam plus lite. It's actually a really horrible experience without it. If you don't plan on paying $10 a month for a bunch of cameras to have cam plus DO NOT get the V4. I might keep 1 V4 and pay the $1.99 a month but besides that the v3's are really good enough.

I almost never go to costco. The only times I go is maybe once or twice a year and it is with someone who has a costco gift card that their friend bought for them so they can go in and shop. So I don't want to buy a costoco membership just for this.

Can you buy this without membership but pay an extra 10% or whatever that is? You could buy this at costco or it has to be online?
I think it's Sam's that's +10% for non-members. Costco.com RARELY matches b&m's prices so you'd have to go in or call to find out. The member buying you a gift card is the only workaround I know but I don't know if that will work for online.
