The 202 is an entry-level machine that is still capable. There have been a lot of finds made with them. Some soil types are harder to search due to soil mineralization. The 202 won't adapt well to difficult soils. In the right conditions, it will find targets as deep as 9".

I bought this last month and to date I've found 10 Iron Maiden, 3 Cradle Of Filth and 4 Meshuggah CDs.

My in laws have an older version of one of these. It's alright for finding things that aren't buried or just below the surface. Don't expect to go more than a couple inches in the dirt.
It's a good way to pass the time. My in laws were into it for a couple of years. They found mostly junk other people had thrown away or lost. Nothing valuable save for a necklace a friend of theirs had lost. (They had and idea of where she lost it, and spent an afternoon metal detecting the area, they found some old earrings that day as well)

IMO, it's a waste of time if you truly value your time.

Has anyone here, actually used this metal detector? If so, thoughts? Is this a decent/good/great deal? If anyone would like to share some helpful feedback about this item, that would be very much appreciated. This would seem to be a relatively inexpensive price, and a potentially good deal, for a metal detector.

Also, thank you very much, OP, for posting this deal on here, for others to see.

Was I the only one thinking that this was a row cage for racing car simulator video games?

Did you check the dark areas for Mushroom Head?

This is a pretty awful metal detector compared to modern options for a little more. I'd buy a used minelab vanquish/xterra/etc or nokta makro simplex/score/etc for under $200 instead.

Have a look on YouTube where people are showing these in action. From my quick glance there, these detectors have very limited range and have poor discrimination between different types of metal. That isn't a surprise at these prices. With cheap metal detectors you'll spend a lot of time digging up bottle caps, ring pulls, screws, buckshot, etc. You really want to minimize the time you're digging and sifting thru dirt. The more you pay for a detector, the deeper it can scan, and the more accurate it will be telling you what's there before you start digging. In short, if you buy one of these, chances are you'll get frustrated quickly and toss it. That said, if you need something to find that ring someone lost in the back yard at yesterday's bbq, this might fit that bill.

BTW, the pinpointer tool is a mini-detector with very short range. It's used once you discover something interesting with the big detector, and are digging a hole and sifting thru dirt. It's used to zero in on small items. I'd say it's almost necessary.

This is better than the Chinese ones that flood Amazon for cheap. For this price it's good to try out metal detecting to see if you like it. If you do, then you'll want to stick to Minelab, Nokta, XP and Garret detectors.

Son has always asked me for one. Decided to get the Bounty Hunter Junior in very good condition from Amazon Warehouse for $40. He just wants to dig things up, keep him entertained on our upcoming beach vacation, easy father son time to look forward to. Don't think I'd splurge for the better ones unless he gets serious about it.

^This,or go for a bit more premium model for a few bucks more and get a Minelab Manticore.Wink

At least stick to name brand ones, not the Walmart kid toys.

Agree i owned a Bounty Hunter entry detector for years. But that was $10 years ago, and I had no other options since the next up was $400 and up.
Nowadays you can get a good Nokta Makro for under $200 and it will blow this away.
Plus it has a much better resale value.
