Yeah, why would you build a desktop without a dedicated gpu?
I'd say the majority of people who use a computer do not need more than onboard graphics. Not everyone plays video games (or maybe they just use PS5/Xbox, edits video and runs their own personal AI LLM.

I think what he is trying to get at is that if you only need integrated graphics, there's plenty of MiniPC options and building a desktop would be a waste.

To get adequate storage and an efficient platform for Plex, NVR, home automation, etc. Having QuickSync built into the CPU massively improves transcoding operations while consuming less energy.
I've considered putting storage on a NAS, but that's a waste if you're already running a server 24x7 for other things.
I'm still waiting for the 13th gen i5 deals to drop...

Note that there's one use case that's come in handy for me over the years: when your dedicated GPU fails, or if you need to remove it to upgrade, RMA, etc., then you still have a fallback integrated GPU for the time being. It's a very slim use case, but one nonetheless.
Even less now, only $47 more. 13th gen and 14th gen are fairly similar, but seems worth an additional $47.
It's worth it. To quote Tom's:
"In contrast, the Core i7-14700K looks more attractive than the Core i9 and i5 models. It's tangibly faster than the older 13700K, thus earning its higher price tag, and it's also faster than the competing productivity-focused chip from AMD. It's also only 3% slower than the 14900K in gaming but costs $180 less. Finally, the four extra E-cores make it much closer to the 14900K in productivity apps now, delivering a solid price-to-performance ratio that will undoubtedly cannibalize Intel's Core i9 sales."

Only an 8% dip in performance and spend the saved $130 towards a better GPU or splurge for a 2tb NVME instead of 1tb.
Yes, I am aware the F requires a dedicated GPU, but if you're buying this processor, chances are you're going to be buying a GPU anyway.

As long as you can handle the power consumption, heat, and have the 600/700 Mobo I'd recommend the 14700. I've been very happy with mine.
