Listed at $349.99 with auto-applied promo code SUMMER673 bringing it to $299.99. Only $10 more than recent prices on the 960GB model.

Update: now includes a $20 electronic gift card, so you get $20 toward a future purchase as well making the net price even lower. Update2: gift card is now gone, code is still listed.

These drives have incredible write lifetimes and the lowest latency you can get for a non-volatile storage device. And now that CPUs have gotten faster it's obvious just how ahead of their time they were. https://www.boringtextreviews.com...res-proof/

According to reviews these are not retail, so you will either need a U.2 slot or a PCIe/M.2 to U.2 adapter to use these drives in a typical desktop.

I've purchased the 960GB version from Newegg last year and it came with a U.2 adapter and a retail box. Maybe the 1.5 TB version is different?

Recent reviews say these don't include the M.2 adapter any more. The last one I bought came in a sealed clamshell with no adapter or documents. I'd rather people not expect it and get one than the other way around.

I would rather spend $150~$200 for a drive like sk hynix, corsair force mp600, etc that performs nearly the same speed with more storage and a lower price

the optane is barely faster than one of the first gen budget gaming SSDs like HP EX950
It still outruns current-gen drives in actual interactive performance. Check the brief review I linked.

Buy what you want though. This is the cheapest new price ever for this drive by $30. For someone who needs or wants one, that's a deal.

This is a drive for those who value drive endurance. You should be comparing DWPD instead of speeds and price per GB. Obviously, TLC SSDs are cheaper per GB, but the endurance is way worse.

One buys these drives for server-grade longevity.

Scroll down to the "Real world testing" portion of the review and see where the Optane is on the charts

I recently purchased the 1.5TB and it did not come with U.2 adapter or retail box. It came in a clear plastic Intel OEM clamshell thing

Thanks for posting........ finally bit on the Intel Optane technology well after it is discontinued!

1.5GB will make a great system drive and the $300 mark makes it worthwhile for my needs.
Will be upgrading from an SK Hynix Platinum P41 2TB

Only the 960GB is shown/listed on the product page to come with the M.2 to U.2 adapter. Bought 2 of these 960GB Optanes 2 weeks ago and they came in full Intel packaging. It sounds like the 1.5 TB just comes in OEM plastic clamshell like the 116 GB M.2s. If you need M.2 to U.2 adapter, then total cost of this ends up being about $330-$340, which is $40-50 more than the 960GB.

I ordered a PCIe U.2 adapter for around US$17 shipped [newegg.com]

The M.2 adapters seemed a bit more expensive and the PCIe seemed a better option to me

This drive decimates current m.2 drives in responsiveness. Sequential throughput, no. But this makes sense for an OS drive with plenty of room to spare. In for one os migration.

That is definitely the more cost effective way of adding a U.2, but I assume you are not putting this in your first PCIe slot that is direct to CPU. That will give you a 10-20% performance hit with the Optane compared to putting it in the first M.2 slot direct to CPU with a M.2 to U.2 adapter.
