Note this is the version 1, not 2. Not sure on the changes.

Good lens for those who don't want to dish out the 2800 or so for the latest 70-200 GM. With f2.8 it's a great for portraits.

V2 is slightly larger, heavier, has VC, lower MFD for better close-up opportunities. Additional lens switch, and "upgraded optics" which could make it worth for some.

Absolutely worth it, great lens for the price, very fast, very sharp. I otherwise am locked in with Sigma DG DN Art primes and zooms, but I needed to fill a gap in my lineup that this one here closes without any regrets. For what I do, Sigma is always the perfect fit, and Tamron is the next contender on my list.

I've been very happy with this lens. I bought it primarily for high school track and cross country, but I really like it for portrait photos as well. Compact and lightweight for the specs.
