I just picked one of these up a month ago from homedepot because our house has terrible airflow. We have central air for really hot days, but I have the AC set to turn off at 7pm and this turns on at 8pm to bring in the cooler evening air. It works fine. Its in our bedroom and the lowest setting isn't whisper quiet, but much quieter than the old double window fan we used to have. It does not move a ton of air, you would definitely get better airflow with a box fan, but it keeps the bedroom fresh and cooler over night. I also like that when it's off the baffle turns to help reduce air leakage. My biggest complaint with it is the 'auto' mode which targets a temperature. If you set it to 70 and the temp drops to something like 68 outside it likes to turn off even when the bedroom is still sitting at 74.

Note: I realize I might have to come up with something to do this, I ask about anything internal that would prevent this.

However they leak air and sound like crazy so if you are running AC on hot days (it's not a substitute for that) it's going to be going out the window. It also isn't loud but the sounds that are usually muffled by the window/wall aren't any longer. Not great if you have a little kid you are trying to get to sleep or even if you are trying to hear the TV.

Bad boy can slam your doors shut if they're not fully open
We looked at a whole house fan and while this is admittedly not as good or as easy to use one bringing air in and another pushing it out on the other side of the house has worked really well for us!
Incase someone is interested it's cheaper elsewhere. Don't know why Amazon is so much higher...
EDIT: Or if you have big windows they make them even bigger - https://www.amazon.com/Air-King-9...139&sr=1-5
the problem with a big 16 or 20 fan is they move a lot of air, but
must be very loud in the process of doing so, therefore you don't
want to actually be in the same room where they operate.
i got my air king half price because it arrived shipping damaged

reseller offered 50% refund if i kept it, and being the diy'er
i am, managed to restore it to good as new after that credit.

best of luck sticking with OP's toy fan.
if a window open for air is a privacy concern

you are better off getting louvers like these
i use them all fall and spring in the northeast
louvers cut down on drafts during windy days.
i would NOT combine this louver with any
typical fan blade device, because the louver
disables the fan's ability to form an air vortex
to move the air across the window opening.
a louver is only good for privacy fresh air.
