Literally what I, and everyone on the forums do. Brick wrapped in foil, or a glass bowl bottom. But you'll get the downvotes cause this is a forum for buying shit, not cooking shit.

Using a brick instead of a press is like chewing your fingernails instead of using clippers. A lot of people do it, it's disgusting, and experts agree there are better tools available.

I'm not saying you should buy this press, just don't use a musty old brick from the condo construction scrap heap.

If you're buying this for smash burgers I'd suggest something lighter. This is better for paninis or searing steaks

But then I have a missing brick in my wall? Wouldn't rodents come through that hole where the brick was?

The product page is so confusing it says country of origin is China but it also says Made in the USA in the description.

I totally agree. I have this, and it's too big for smash burgers, especially if you are making a lot of them. You end up smashing the ones next to each other.

I love my cast iron pans, but I'm not a huge fan of my cast iron burger press. I find it easy to wash a cast iron pan, sit on the burner to dry, and wipe some oil on. On the press, I have to sit it in the pan and try to cook it enough to dry it out so it doesn't rust. If I saw a stainless steel one of a good weight and size, I'd much rather have gone that way.

And vampire bats. But thankfully vampire hunters, too.
