These are such great deals for simple small profile computers. Works great for a non-gamer or server.

Not a PC gamer at all, but my wife, who used to play Sims when she was a kid, wants to play that again. Would this be good for that at all, or is that still too much for this system?

Edut: I mean the modern Sims, Sims 4, which from the comments I'm guessing is a no.

The original Sims (1)? it should be fine, however you might have compatibility issues playing a game that old on a newer OS.

No, I meant Sims 4. Just the updated version of the game with all the possible expansions.

Are these upgradeable to win 11?
Thinking of using this for a plex server - any pro's or con's?

Yes, Windows 11 is perfectly fine. This is 9th Gen, so the Quick sync built in will be good for most transcoding tasks, will work great for Plex.

I use a 8th gen i7 in a optiplex 3060 with the iGPU. Works great up to like 6 transcoding sessions which is plenty for my needs. This should be just fine for plex. FWIW, i run unraid with about 8 different containers (plex as one) and the thing has been pretty stable.

It can be upgraded to Windows 11, almost all intel processers from 8th generation on can upgrade due to including a TPM module with the processor.

As for pros or cons for running plex... something to keep in mind is that Dell SFF pcs are pretty limited on storage. According to the Service manual the 3431 SFF has one M.2 slot and two SATA ports (one is normally used for ODD if present). Due to the tool-less nature of Optiplex and Precision SFF, you are also limited in your options of securely installing your storage, and depending on what drive tray is included you will be generally limited to that form factor.

Long story short, depending on your storage needs the 3431 might be difficult to work with, processor and memory will be more than adequate at least.

If looks don't matter, one might be able to put a hole in the case to get access to the sata and power connector (if there is one) and hook up an 3.5 big data drive or maybe two, running at sata speeds.
Probably need a sata and power cable extender.

Is there no HDMI port? It shows two display ports and the hookup guide shows a HDMI going into a blank.
