Just ordered it. I'm currently using a low-budget 2-channel M-Audio interface, AFAIK the cheapest way to have two XLR microphones. It's ok but not great. Now, the Tascam has three effect buttons and RCA out, which is rare under $250. It would be perfect with a USB hub and USB-C, but for $49 it's interesting enough to order it.
Could this replace a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for audio recording? I am so sick of replacing them just to have the drivers keep failing and having to replace it with another "generation."

Hmmm...my Focusrite 4i4 3rd gen has been pretty solid. You on a Mac or PC? I've used mine on Windows 10/11 for years with no driver issues.

I would stick with Focusrite for the quality might be better compared to Tascam.

I am on W11 w a 2nd gen after replacing a 1st gen, and have the dreaded "static" audio that requires I unplug/replug the USB frequently to clear the audio.

You might look into the Motu M2 if you get fed up.
I have one of these. I no longer use it as I went back to my Yamaha as I needed more inputs. But this thing is awesome. To give you some perspective for my podcast we use a rodecaster. Wanted something I could use at home (as my rodecaster stays where we podcast) so I picked this guy up as my Yamaha was packed away. I loved the software it came with the built in effects, voice changers, it's a lot of fun and I'll bust it out when I want to use effects when recording. I thought I'd upgrade after using this for a bit so went to a focusrite solo 3rd Gen. Immediately regretted it and went back to the tascam until busted my Yamaha out. If you don't need multiple inputs like me for cassettes, vinyl and voice. I think this is a great start for ya

Terrible device, will send it back. The software is 7 years old and it's not natively recognized as audio interface in MacOS. As well I really regret having ordered it at B&H as they charge $10 for sending it back. Never again B&H.
