Macroeconomically it's for the industry. Triple AAA have been delisting previous editions to make new editions more valuable (2K series), the removal of emulation, and emphasizing DLC. The men who run the companies feel this strategy will bring more money and make it profitable. And they are testing consumers as we speak. It's a good time as consumers to stop hoarding sales and pick quality items and balance our time to do other things as countermeasure. It's also better anyways.

This particular item is a quality item to own and a very nice price. Allows my kids to play locally.
