After waiting forever for a decent price, I got a refurbished R7 for $999. Flash forward two months to today, it's now $799.

And I bought the R6 Mk.I at $1299.99, and it's now $1099.99

Don't know if any of you are waiting to pull the trigger, but I think this is as good it's going to get until December. Even then, it's hard to believe those prices will be better than this.

Also, if you see something you want but is out of stock, try calling Canon directly and tell them you want to take advantage of the loyalty program AND take advantage of the sales price.

Before I bought the R7, the sale went live when the call centers were closed, and you can only take advantage of the loyal program if you call in. I bought the body that same night anyway, because I thought they'd honor my claim and feared the body would sell out overnight (it did). Unfortunately, they would not honor my loyal program claim because, apparently, it can only be applied DURING purchase. The rep told me, though, if I wait next time to call, and the item I want is sold out, they'll honor the sale price AND loyalty program claim.

I'll be honest: I think this is a YMMV thing. Less something you can bet on and more of a safety net if you miss out on a product. Something to consider.

If only in a perfect world, everything you want to shoot is within 2x range and daylight lighting. That's the limitation of the cellphone. The majority of things you will want to photograph (not ego selfies) will be beyond 2x and that's when the detail falls off for cellphones. This still remains the same problem from 10+ years ago. This is why DSLRs still exist.

this isn't aimed at anyone specifically, but these types of cameras should not be sold to people who only can operate a smart phone of any type.

you really need to be a knowledgeable photographer to use these cameras or don't bother.

some people can't get beyond 2 controls: on and off, that is as deep as they go. i know a lady who has a bag of lens and various cameras, but she only uses the 'auto' feature on all her cameras. i asked her about the other basic controls like f stop, shutter, iso, or aperture.............no clue. these types need not apply.

these things are not iPhones taking Fake pictures, it is the difference between watching Lame media and Real independent media. the stuff on television doesn't cut it and neither does your iPhone knowledge.

basic videos on photography can help or YouTube will help you. if that is too much, don't touch this stuff; read this whole thread and find out why.

Do these have any mass shutter fails like the sony a7iii? How do you like the R7?

Honestly, I haven't shot that much with the R7, so I haven't noticed any failures. I am surprised by how loud the mechanical shutter is, though.

But as a companion body to my R6, it's terrific*. I enjoy have an extra 60% of reach and without losing megapixels.

Planing to buy the R50 for my first begginer camera. Tips and lens recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Learn about the different focal lengths, then buy lenses for the subjects you take photos of.

...

B&H, KEH, etc have used lenses. Unless your itching to blow away money on new, used typically works fine, cheaper.

Same era Canon 80D sensor vs iPhone 15.

Don't be disappointed to see how modern smartphones can come close, or exceed 6 year old dslrs.

Try shooting an iPhone 15 pro in the late evening or early morning. Fine for posting on social media but there is absolutely no detail, nothing but mush.

Picked up the R50 last time for $449. These are really great prices.

I'm looking at the RFS 10-18 for $199. That's the first time I have seen it below retail.
