With Samsung you can flash the firmware to unlock on day 1, but not with Moto.
Metro's unlocking policy does not require an active monthly plan. Their phones just need to be activated and wait for 1 year.

I got a moto stylus 2024 from metro last month. Too bad I didn't notice your post at the time. Now I try to get this phone for $35(2nd line)+ $3(gv) but couldn't get passed their security check. Their device limitation per person used to be 2, I suspect it's 1 device per person now. Should've known better before buying from metro.
I tried another data sim from another t-mobile MVNO and that's no go.
