how does the torrentshell hold up against the REI rainier jacket? that one lasted only like 2 years until the inside was peeling and the arms were no longer waterproof. I had taken care of it the proper way, too.
I've had the torrentshell 3L and Isthmus for around 4 years now and they both have held up great, pretty much look new. Look into Nikwax tech wash to take care of them

My (lifetime) experience has been that Patagonia products won't have these kinds of failures. Only problem is that over time these all suffer from the outer surface wetting. As mentioned above, one just needs to use the correct detergent or after-wash spray to bring back the DWR outer surface. I use the detergent as it's just a little more convenient.

I've had a 10+ year old waterproof Patagonia jacket peel like most waterproofed materials do. 5 minutes in a Patagonia store and they handed me a new one under the warranty.
I really, really like both REI and Patagonia as companies and their products, but Patagonia warranty makes them a clear winner in my experience for clothing.

Yeah, at 10 years all bets are off. I was referring to Hike's comment about total failure at 2 years which seems premature to me.

My wife got one a few months ago so no longer term report yet, but she also has a similar Patagonia rain jacket from a decade or so ago. It still works, but the inside has started flaking significantly. She said it's been heavily used and took years for that to happen. YMMV, but she said she got her money's worth

I've been looking for the Boulder fork rain jacket for a while. I like the material better then the other types of rain jackets that feel like your wearing a plastic bag.
