I appreciate the contribution of the link, but I feel parents or expectant parents really research and choose their car seats based on their and their baby's needs. So it should be an apples to apples price comparison, not a "this car seat is lower cost" comparison. Cost would just be one of the factors in their decision.

Also construction quality Diono are steel frame.
And QXT goes up to 10 years old, baby seat to booster.

Even a Graco 4DXL is like $200+ and I think those are more comparable again without a steel frame.

Not slim fit like Dionos if you need 3 in backseat so not even a fair comparison.

Possibly one of the best seat. We've gone through Graco and Chicco. Settled on Diono for easy loading and solid construction. We now have 3 Dionos in two separate cars.

I bought 2 of these seats and ended up returning them. It is impossible to get the seat to stay firmly in place. For context I tried installing in both a Ford Explorer middle bench (side & middle) and Lincoln MKz rear seats. I tried the Diono in both forward and rear facing, securing with the seat belts. The base of the seat would always move at least 2-3"+ and the top of the seat was extremely wobbly. Diono's own install videos will also show a wobbly top is expected. This is not acceptable as I have never used a car seat that moved this much. It seems to be a design flaw as the center of gravity feels high. The seat design is rather complicated and cumbersome. Read the Amazon reviews and many people will say the same thing. It is a study seat, but that's the only positive. I replaced with a Britax Poplar 17" and couldn't be happier. I have 3 car seats installed in the Explorer middle row, including a Britax 19".

I am able to get a sturdy install every time on mine. When forward facing you must tether to the back. This was also one of the only car seats that had a front tether when rear facing. Mines a few years old now but solid car seat although I did buy ours for much less(again a few years back).

Personally I would not sacrifice features and quality to save a hundred or two hundred bucks when it comes to my baby.

Here is the video. Notice the movement, especially in the top. No other car seat brand I have used has this much movement. The Diono guy is absolutely wrong in stating the only place that matters is movement at the belt path.

Just my $0.02 reading these comments, all car seats have to meet federal safety standards, irrespective of the price. What you are paying is for features and convenience not safety, as a $40 car sear should keep your baby just as safe as a $200 one. Also, keep in mind car seats have an "expiration" date based on date of manufacture, not when you bought. Most will expire before your kids turn 10 if you bought them right after they are born

FYI

"We have said this in other Diono multimode seat reviews and will say it again: a properly used car seat will protect a child extraordinarily well in a collision, but a complicated car seat makes that a lofty goal for even the most seasoned technicians and caregivers. Unfortunately, the Diono Radian 3QXT with its extra pieces and rules falls into the complicated category and is not a seat we would recommend outside of VERY specific scenarios."

some go above basic federal standards. So no, they are not "just as safe"

This is from Consumer Reports:

"Spending a lot of money doesn't necessarily mean you'll get the best car seat. Many midpriced models work as well as or better than pricier ones. An expensive model may give you more features for ease of installation or use, but paying more does not guarantee a safer seat. "

I've got 4 Dionos, 2 of the older Rainier and 2 Radians. I've had at least 1 kid in a Diono for the past 7 years. I've taken a pair of them on vacation in their backpack bags, one on my back, one on my front... they're super heavy. This is a feature... it's one of the few things that my hyper anxious wife is never anxious about, she knows that once the kids are buckled in, they're safer than she is.

The narrow spacing is great even in our SUV. It means a full size adult can sit between the car seats... Put Grandma back there and long trips are something the kids look forward to!

It only takes me 5 minutes to get a seat in and out... and I can climb all the way into the seat to weigh it down and get the straps tight without worrying about breaking something plastic, like I worried about with my brother's car seat.

Highly recommended. The only thing I would change is the cup holders, they're not great, but they're servicable.

I probably would have gotten this when we had our first child. Instead, we got a Graco (on sale $120) 3-in-1. I do like that this Diono seat can be folded up conserving space until needed.

Do they make adult size versions of these? They do I think, Recaro and Sparco make them. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ ๐Ÿ’บ ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŽ
